Reviews of Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines
"Some of the best healthcare I ever received in my life was at Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines. Fast forward a few years, the quality of care, staff and the physicians (at least the ones I have experienced) has plummeted. I really can'y blame the staff, I'm sure they are doing the best with what they are given. When the Doc's leave or forced out, they have to infill with somebody. I'm probably being generous with two stars."
"This review is not about a specific provider but for Scripps as an organization. I do NOT recommend Scripps for any imaging service, there are much more cost effective diagnostic centers. Scripps’ medical systems are archaic in terms of information sharing with other external providers and labs. This is unacceptable for the amount of money this “world class” organization charges. This is particularly cumbersome when your doctor needs to access diagnostic images. So most doctors advise you to get all your imaging done in-house. I don’t think this is okay, considering Imaging at Scripps can be 2x to 3x what other diagnostic centers charge, so I recommend calling your insurance and getting quotes before you schedule and X-Ray or MRI. I’m glad I checked, I paid $500 at IHS for an MRI that would have cost me around $1000 at Scripps. Also, if you get it done externally, please ask for the lab to give you the images burned on a CD to take it to a Scripps doctor because their archaic fortress of systems cannot easily connect to any other reputed medical organization because they don’t understand how to implement cyber security without just blocking access to everything."
"This review is not about my primary care provider, who is one of the most excellent doctors I ever have, but with Scripps as a medical organization that puts profit before patients, fosters organizational incompetence over efficiency, customer care, and feedback. Scripps's employees in scheduling department, insurance submission, and billing departments were atrocious and lacks customer care. Scripps lacks a feedback process or survey after patient interaction so they can address issues and/or provide training. I changed insurance in June this year. Every time I call to schedule to see a doctor or have lab work completed, I always make it a point to bring up that I have changed insurance, to make sure any approval or billing is sent to my current insurance. Apparently, at Scripps, it can take months for their employees to figure that out even after a patient brings it up over and over, multiple times. Even worse, Scripps will request approval of procedure with my old insurance, schedule me for it, and when I ask who approved it -- it wasn't my new insurance company! I had to cancel vacation for a procedure only to reschedule/cancel last minute because Scripps did not ask my new insurance company's approval. For a medical care facility, this is not acceptable. Until September this year, my billing details on Scripps website show that Scripps was submitting bills to both previous and current insurance provider. Why? Another thing that I found out, if I stay with my new insurance provider's network of imaging and labs, I will not have to pay excessive amount on what Scripps has been billing me and my insurance. This means, Scripps's lab work is padded excessively with high costs than most Imaging centers or labs. When I asked Scripps Billing Department why I have to pay more with Scripps lab than other labs, she simply said you have to go where your insurance recommends. To me, that is a true sign that Scripps put profits before patient care, without an organizational intent of lowering costs to benefit patients and make them competitive in healthcare market. I asked a friend, a registered nurse who reviews and process billings of medical facilities, hospitals and clinics if this is a common practice -- that Scripps bills higher than other facilities -- and he empathically said yes. Hence, he refers patients to go to other centers, imaging, or lab. Ever wonder why healthcare is expensive? Three words: Profits before patients."
"An absolute money-hungry institution. I was billed $1,500 and told that my urgent care, emergency department visit was just an office visit so that my insurance could not kick in and I would have to pay out-of-pocket. They also demanded my ss, which shouldn't be allowed. Not to mention, there were several charges on the bill where I didn't even receive actual treatment, including biling a provider, whom I don't ever recall meeting or seeing. They also charged $499.21 for a Sarscov2 test?!?! I didn't go to the ER just to get billed $500 for a covid test, as the covid test was completely unnecessary and I also did NOT ask for a covid test during my visit, as I could easily take a PCR or at-home covid test for much much less than $500."
"My son's has had migraine head aches for years. We have sought medical attention up and down the west coast. We finally found some excellent physicians at Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines. They provided him with Botox treatment which made all the difference in the world. This is an excellent medical facility."
