"I've been a patient at South Bay Behavioral Health for almost two years, initially recommended by my brother who had positive experiences dealing with ADHD under Dr. Mai's care. My journey began with Laura Slippy, a psychiatrist who impressed me with her sweetness, kindness, and understanding during our thorough one-hour initial session. Laura diagnosed me with depression and anxiety, prescribing Wellbutrin. Due to scheduling conflicts, I later switched to another physician. My experience with Wellbutrin included changes in release types over several months, with frustrating side effects like tremors, moodiness, and blurry vision. Expressing my concerns through emails, I should have communicated more during calls. Dr. Mai suggested a Neurology Psych Test for ADHD, costing $500 upfront (refundable if insurance covers it). The extensive 2-3 hour test confirmed ADHD, yet Wellbutrin persisted. After combining Venlafaxine and Wellbutrin, my concerns grew, but Dr. Mai's patient approach eventually led to exploring alternative medications. Dr. Mai explained his cautious approach, prioritizing the management of my depression and anxiety first. His methodical steps aimed to ensure I understood each medication's effects. Receptionists were welcoming, and while Dr. Mai occasionally ran a few minutes late, it didn't disrupt my experience. Noteworthy points for potential patients: receptionists are friendly, Neurology Tests cost $500 (refundable with insurance), first missed psychiatrist appointment incur a $150 balance, and regular appointment misses result in a $50 balance. Booking and attending appointments through a user-friendly online platform made the process easy. In conclusion, despite initial frustrations, Dr. Mai's patience and commitment to my well-being became evident. I recommend considering Dr. Mai or Laura Slippy as your physicians at South Bay Behavioral Health for a positive and supportive mental health journey."
