Reviews of Vaden Health Center - Student Health Center
"I had a terrible experience at Vaden while sick with covid. I was late to my appointment by 6 minutes as I had covid and could barely walk or breathe. They told me they couldn't accommodate me and rescheduled it to later in the afternoon. I'm appalled by the total lack of humanity as I was on the verge of collapsing and barely made it out of the building. Im also disgusted that they do not account for these types of extenuating circumstances. When I came back for my second appointment, they confirmed that I had covid and basically sent me on my way with good wishes and instructions to hydrate and isolate. They didn't even bother with a prescription for medication that would alleviate the symptoms. What a joke. As many reviewers have said this center is horribly run and if you are seriously sick save yourself and seek treatment elsewhere."
"I am currently in ICU after my triple bypass and these people are amazing nurse Jess is the greatest which is saying alot seeing how everyone is awesome. I feel I am in great hands"
"The way student health is run at Stanford university is a serious detriment to student success. If you get anything more than a mild cold, expect to waste weeks and bear thousands of dollars for a very mediocre medical service. - Stanford’s insurance somehow expects students to live on campus throughout the year (including summer), or expect to pay 2-3 times if you are outside of the immediate area. - There was no support whatsoever for continuity of care during the insurance switch in 2023 - No urgent care on campus - Very unreliable lab hours (have been turned away multiple times during business hours) - Extremely limited appointment slots"
"Arrived 7 minutes late for an appointment after driving 90 minutes in traffic from the East Bay and was told there was a strict FOUR MINUTE grace period after which appointments were cancelled. To have such a strict policy, and not communicate it to students, is unacceptable. They claim to tell people who schedule over the phone, but the majority of students schedule on the web and this policy is never communicated."
"While it is nice to have a medical center on Campus dealing with Vaden is very frustrating. There are some nice doctors and staff members. Mostly they refer you elsewhere. Some points that you should watch out for: 1. Their pre-printed hand-outs have far too little information. One that I was given asked me to make a bleach solution which can be quite dangerous but it did not contain any information about the concentration of bleach to water. 2. The lab is not operating great at all and there seems to be a lot of communication difficulties with other departments. For example, once for a blood draw my doctor told me that I would be called, I waited half an hour and when I asked I was not checked in and was moved to the end of the line. Another time the doctor told me that they would give me instructions on how to collect a sample but the person in the lab said they could not tell me at all what to do. Lab results take long. 3. Another issue is that, when you make an appointment you are asked to fill out an extensive check-in questionnaire that no one then seems to look at (I asked once about this) or has much relevance to the current condition you seek treatment for. You will then be asked the same questions by both the nurse that sees you first and then the doctor (e.g., if you smoke tobacco, when your last menstrual period was). So maybe just don't fill it out to begin with. Once they had to reschedule an appointment from their side and wanted me to fill all the information out again. When I asked if they could retrieve it they seemed almost angry (they are always very nice on the surface) and said it was not possible but some nice employee actually knew how to do it. 4. I sometimes feel a tiny bit gaslit when I bring anything that goes sub-optimal up. I understand they follow their rules but some of the nurses have acted like I am crazy for misunderstanding something that is ambiguous. 5. Don't have your well-woman exam here. They barely do anything. They also often have long wait times (make sure you are on time though, to minimize these waiting times they have very strict policy on that). Since they close at 5pm it is nearly impossible to go there outside of normal working hours (which obviously is not their fault)."
