Reviews of Karma Sushi & Bar
"Hands down the best sushi restaurant in LA! Once you get a taste of Chef James's culinary experience, you will want to go back every day. A true addiction."
"It's like the owners and head chefs learned all the things that make a sushi spot perfect in LA and put them all into Karma. The food is magnificent. The employees are knowledgeable and experienced but not pretentious. The drinks are spot on and the atmosphere is totally LA. Let me say this again... the sushi is perfect. We don't eat rolls. We like to taste our fish. And here... you WANT to do that. Thank you, James. We've been waiting for this for a long time. You've got things just as it should be. Can't wait to be back and bring more friends!!"
"Super delicious Omakase experience! I'd definitely like to go back on a week night for a few rolls. We did a double date here the other night and there was a mixup with our order and we waited a long time but they made it right. I definitely recommend the Omakase experience! My favorite was the nigiri and sashimi. Super fresh and all the details on top of the fish were delicious. Creamy caviar at one point ! This place is in a busy area, so parking is hard, get there early! I appreciate the upscale vibe in the midst of a lot of restaurants, its stands apart!"
"My wife and I have passed the spot a few times but finally had a chance to check it out. We did their Lite Omakase and had a cocktail each. The cocktails were surprisingly good (samui watermelon and jasmine tea) but arguably $1-2 more than I would have expected. I probably would have gotten another had they been even a little cheaper. The sushi was phenomenally and plated beautifully but a bit small for the price. I almost felt like I needed one hearty side of something with rice, or even just some rice with the sashimi to make it perfect. To be fair, I was not hungry afterwards. The service was fine but seemed either inexperienced or a little out of touch with each other. Our host was pretty soft spoken and even seemed a little nervous. They were very kind to let us walk ahead of them when being seated but I quickly realized, "I don't know where I am going" and asked them to lead. They checked in with us a few times, with kindness but also seemingly unsure what to say to us. Later in the night a second server asked us what we would like for dessert after we had already placed that order. Again, super kind and polite, just seemed like they were still figuring it out a bit. The venue is beautiful. Lots of rainbow colors hidden in all of the deep blacks is super cool. Murals and tableware, all of it was super slick and unique. I would suggest to the staff that unless the place is packed, not to seat people right at the end of the sushi bar where people come in and out of the kitchen. That was a bit distracting, not because I don't love watching that kind of activity but because I felt like I was in the way sitting at the end. Additionally, there was something about the acoustics of the spot we were sitting (sushi bar) where I could barely hear the chef and the people talking to me. Not because it was too loud, it was almost like the sound was being dampened by something. Not horrible but it made it difficult to hear what the chef was saying. That said, we plan to come back and try a few different things."
