Reviews of The FanaticSalon Theater | Culver City Comedy Club
"Excellent venue to host improv, standup, or any theatrical performance. About 50 seats in the house, the amazing Jane Morris on the lights, a nice outdoor courtyard where you can serve refreshments. Also a good place to rent for rehearsals."
"Not recommended for the brand new starting out. Fanatic Salon is located at a busy intersection of Sawtelle and Venice. The neighborhood is more residential and less urban than the location for the Tao Comedy Club in Korea-town. Fortunately, I had done an open mic at Tao Comedy Club the night before. The venue itself is fine. It is a bigger stage and the lights are not as hot, nor do you feel caught in the lights there. You can see the audience too when you perform, unlike Tao. There is, however, an unfortunate downside. White Privilege. Unlike the supportive staff of Tao, the staff here, Saxons, seem to want to “manage” you. They seem to be in lockstep with the other white comedians of who are also Saxons performing there. I am not criticizing them for this. I must admit their extension of white privilege over me, is perhaps unintentional, but they made me feel uncomfortable. This is not what I felt at Tao, where they seemed to accept me as I am. That being said. For the most part the staff was friendly and helpful, and the audience was respectful. I don’t like the vibes I got here, but I won’t rule it out as a venue to practice new material. About a half of the audience left before the other acts finished, which I thought was rude, unlike most of the audience which stayed at the Tao. If you are brand new, and terrified, you can try here, but you might enjoy the Tao more. —End of Review— What is available here? They have a free parking lot, albeit a small one, and free street parking is available. They have one, very clean, uni-sex bathroom, if you need to go during the show. $5 for five minutes of stage time. They will offer you a bottle of water or a can of soda. I didn’t see anyone bring food, nor was any offered. Do not rush to get here. The staff was late. We waited outside for over a half-hour (sign ups are at 6:30pm) when they opened the doors after 7pm. We then waited another half-hour for the show to begin. Perhaps, they were waiting for more people to show up?"
"I am an Improv Fanatic and this is one of the westside's "Greatest little theaters"... for Improv and the talented writers, actors and funny people that can create something out of Nothing. Love the folks that run it and have enjoyed every show I've seen there...they also have classes..writing ...improv(with some of the best Veteran Teachers) Check it out 4 sure...there's even an open Mic or two...Thursday 630 and Friday 930..."
