About the Theatre Experience of Southern California
The Theatre Experience of Southern California is a renowned institution located at 22647 Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. Rehearsals are held at Claremont Presbyterian Church, with productions taking place at the beautiful Bridges Auditorium. In addition, performances are also held at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse in Pasadena and Altadena Community Church.
Since 1993, Theatre Experience of Southern California has been providing exceptional musical theatre opportunities for young people in the community. Students have the chance to become part of a large cast in a non-competitive environment, receiving training in voice, dance, and acting techniques. The program culminates in production week rehearsals and performances, allowing children to showcase their talents and build their self-esteem and confidence.
Teachers have the opportunity to bring their students to live performances, as all shows are child-friendly. Field trip schedules can be obtained by contacting the institution. Whether in Claremont, Pasadena, Altadena, or Los Angeles, Theatre Experience of Southern California offers a unique and enriching experience for young performers and audiences alike.
Reviews of Theatre Experience of Southern California
"Theater Experience of Southern California is an excellent community theater program that caters to performers from age 5 to adult. It is a true community experience in that all participants are considered for age-appropriate roles (as opposed to youth theater, when children play all the parts). My family is currently participating in our third show with TESOCAL and have found the experience extremely engaging and fun. The truest testament to the excellence of this program, which has been around for decades, is that many participants started as children and then return to take part as adults, often bringing their own children along to participate. The quality of the program also attracts families that have been or are currently in performing arts careers. The instructors are not only talented and experienced, they are kind, considerate, and extremely patient. It’s amazing how they are able to get so many people, with such a broad age span, to learn and perform an entire musical. Even with the challenges that inevitably arise during production week, the staff is calm, professional, and organized. The program emphasizes the process of putting a show together and the weekly rehearsals are as equally educational as the final show. At the start, participants learn about the audition process, and everyone is invited, and made to feel comfortable, to get up in front and audition. Each week participants work on the music, which includes vocal warm-ups, singing in harmony, and solos. We also learn choreography for ensemble numbers, an undertaking that is challenging at first, and very fulfilling when finally mastered! The final show is held in the grand Bridges auditorium and is complete with multiple backdrops, scenery, special effects, and stage crew. There is some waiting around during production week as each group takes its turn rehearsing on stage. However, watching how the show is produced from behind the scenes can be just as valuable as being on stage. My children love watching, and learning from, the older and more experienced participants and love that they are part of such a high-quality production. All participants pay tuition and go through the same audition and rehearsal process, regardless of age, experience, and training. My children have enjoyed every moment of their theater experience and eagerly await each rehearsal."
"My daughter did Wizard of Oz and it was a waiste of money. It was more about the older actors then the kids. Us parents love watching our kids not older actors that are getting paid. They also treated the kids the week of the show like extras not part of the show. They had to be in hot waiting room and out in the cold for break time. They had little part of the entire show. We will not return."
