Reviews of Aurora Charter Oak Behavioral Health Care
"I was 19 when I arrived here. The nurses and staff were excellent, providing caring support. Initially, adjusting was tough without access to the outside world, the internet, and people. The beds are metal, the mattresses thin, and the environment is cold, reminiscent of a hospital. Windows are bulletproof, and even the shower curtains have weight to them. These measures are in place to prevent self-harm. It's important to note that this environment is not designed for leisure; it's a place for healing and safety. Furthermore, I formed friendships with others facing diverse struggles, which helped us empathize with each other. I spent two weeks there, and without the support of the staff and everyone else who stood by me, I wouldn't be here today, battling to maintain positivity every day. If you or someone you care about is struggling, please reach out. Don't let fear hold you back. Remember, healing isn't always comfortable, but reaching out for support is the first step towards a brighter tomorrow."
"Was taken here and held 10 days against my will. It personally cost me $1400 in fees & my pets were stuck in the humane society while I waited to be freed. This also caused my teen son to go without food while I was unable to access funds and feed my child. Only saw the doctor during the last 3 days I was in this facility. The day staff are terrible humans. At one point I was asked if I “wanted the bruise again” in regards to a shot to calm my nerves. The first shot left a bruise in the shape of a closed fist with knuckles. I took the shot for relief as the day staff all were nasty spirited and resembled gremlins after they get wet. I do not use drugs or drink alcohol. I am pre-diabetic & was taken here when I lost control of my glucose levels. I was heavily sedated by the staff when I first arrived when previously before arrival I was 100% drug free. There was only one counselor “Nicole” who seemed qualified to speak in group therapy sessions. Another counselor was an addict who raved about meth dealers being good people. For myself this type of person being allowed to speak was a trigger to endure. I have zero tolerance for dealers/addicts & found it tasteless to allow that type of mannerisms in a group therapy. I will always be pro-children & anti-dealer/addict. This facility is about pushing pills & holding people against their will. At one point another patient & I was given food rations of a small bowl of meat for dinner while everyone else received an entire dinner plate with multiple food items. Despite a lack of appetite and access to ready to eat healthy food options is what led me to be admitted to this facility. I had been sick for over a year but denied a working medical card by Phil Romero of El Monte DPSS. The only thing positive to come out of this experience is that I now have medical proof that I am drug free and had been sick for over a year due to being undiagnosed pre-diabetic. I still do not have access to a medical card by the state of California as Phil Romero has “restricted” the benefit."
"I had the unfortunate experience of recently being I use this word lightly because if felt more like central lock down to me. Food was acceptable but definitely not above and beyond a few times it was cold. Mostly just water sometimes if you get there early coffee or juice. Didn't provide soap for the toilet. They don't check toilet paper levels twice I had to request some. Slow to answer questions. Honestly this case manager Ashley didn't know anything and even twisted what my mom told her. Put on a 72 hr hold for arquing with my mom and felling suicidal and homicidal spent 10 days here. Nothing to do!! No books nothing. Watch TV or sleep all day. Only Saw Dr twice when I came and when I left. Case manager had no clue about places she insisted I call. Not even a match for my situation. Luckily my mom decided to give me another chance. This place drives you crazy they don't help you recover. Better off at LAC USC med CTR. Unfortunately not my first visit but I want this to be My last. This place Sucks."
"Charter Oak Hospital has been there for me on numerous occasions. I last surrendered on February 27, 2017. Robin and his team showed me love and supported me during my most broken moments. They directed me and provided support for not only myself but also my family. As I approach 7 years of recovery, I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to work closely with Robin, his team, and Glendora Recovery Center as a team! We do for this for ourselves, but we cannot do it alone. If it weren't for Charter Oak Hospital, I would not have the life I live today! I truly appreciate participating in the Run 4 Recovery events, and Charter Oak is always my go-to place for detox. Working together with them is a true blessing and miracle of recovery. Thank you, Charter Oak Hospital, for saving my life."
"If you ever stay here good luck, i had to stay here and endure the nurses aggression for 3 days. They would not give me my ear infection medication which ended in me having hearing loss, and on top of that the way they treated me makes me wonder if they even care about any of their patients, it's clear to see they don't at all. A good majority of the night shift nurses are extremely disrespectful and will make sure to talk about you and call you disgusting names because one of these nurses had the nerve to call me "ugly and annoying" where i could hear her say it! absolutely appalled at the treatment and furthermore its crazy to believe the nurses who mistreat these people haven't been investigated yet."
