"Wow - where do I even begin.. I’m a first time mom and this was not the first choice of hospital - I believed I was having an emergency so we figured we should just go to the nearest hospital. I was having terrible contractions.. when we showed up to labor and delivery I informed them that I was high risk - I then saw all of the nurses smirk at each other and roll their eyes as if I was bothering them.. my first nurse was pretty nice but not very informative on what was going on. I was asking questions and not getting answers - mostly “I don’t knows” Then the worst OBGYN DR think I’ve EVER dealt with came in. I believe her name was DR. Diaz? Anyway, ignored most of my questions- made me and my fiancé feel stupid.. was not caring in the slightest bit.. she actually made me cry. I was so confused the entire time on what was going on… then dealt with a medication they gave me to stop contractions which made me extremely shakey (they did tell me to expect that) but when we asked the nurse how long that would happen for - she acted annoyed and gave us a snotty remark again.. no real answer to put my mind at ease. She didn’t even help me out of the bed into my wheelchair- my fiancé had to help me with just about everything. To wrap this up.. we dealt with one more nurse who wanted to give me a pill to which I responded “will it be okay with the other medication I’m on” again I’m a high risk patient I have seizures from brain cancer I had a few years back… This nurse was visibly upset and annoyed and responds with “well I don’t know I don’t know what your on” rolls her eyes and looked it up on the computer. We then have to deal with another new OBGYN dr which I was happy about because I did NOT a want to see dr. Diaz again… but unfortunately this Dr was not any better - didn’t really answer any questions and then pretty much scolded us for coming to hoag because it’s not our hospital and they don’t know anything about me. So next time don’t come here basically.. Honestly it was a nightmare and I feel TERRIBLE for anyone who has to deal with that mess… find a different place to have your baby and have a pleasant experience. Negative 0 stars and left with a little bit of ptsd to be real honest. Seems to me you’re just a number to them here - I can’t imagine actually having to give birth with these people."
"Recently few weeks back, my wife delivered her baby at this hospital. Experience wise it is a mixed one. Just wanted to put this review to give another experience for future expectant parents. Admission process was smooth, there was slight delay in getting the actual labor room, but was provided with inspection room which was equally good. Labor department experience was amazing, with great service from nurses and doctors. Special Kudos to Ashley who helped during almost entire evening and night for my wife's normal delivery. She deserves hike/promotion! Post labor, we were shifted to mom & baby room, where service was unexpectedly very bad. Nurses in this area/department were totally non co-operative, rude and non-caring. They were pushing tired mother to take care of everything on the 2nd day itself, despite requesting and mentioning mother was tired and exhausted. Discharge done by the nurses were also not of great service. Recommendation to Hoag management is to see if there is any way to improve the service and hospitality in Mom & Baby section for smooth and better experience for parents and baby in future."
"I would give it a 0 if I could. I have been keeping this inside for years but feel like people should know. I planned my delivery 6 month in advance. I knew it was going to be in December and wanted a nice room that looked over Newport Beach cause I knew the boat parade would be going on and this was my last baby. My water broke, I went to the hospital and my 1st room was amazing! After about 14+ hours of labor my very rude OB got called in to deliver my baby...in which he wasn't happy about. He came into the room upset because he was so busy that day. He started doing his job but rushing me to push and telling me I'm not pushing good enough. He even yelled at me when I stopped pushing in the middle of his count. After my baby was born, I felt heavy tugging and pulling that was painful. I didn't realize that he was forcing and pully my afterbirth out. Even the nurses in the room looked uncomfortable. Maybe after a few hours, I was then moved to another room that looked like a dark very small room that I wasn't prepared for. I asked them why I was in a room like this and nobody answered me. It had no windows and a very small tv. I had to to use the bathroom and I called for a nurse to help me. When she came, she noticed that I bled through all my cloths and everything on the bed. I couldn't walk from the epidural. When I finally went to the bathroom for the first time hours after giving birth, I passed a blood clot the size of a softball. The look on that nurses face said it all and I asked her if it was from the doctor pulling my placenta out instead of letting it naturally pass. She didn't answer. I didn't get rechecked before getting discharged to go home even though I kept mentioning the really heavy bleeding. I always dreamed of having my baby at Hoag Newport. I wish my experience was what I expected."
"Its been a little over 2 weeks since I had my baby at Hoag NB. Some of these reviews are negative so I wasnt sure what to expect but I personally had the best experience. I elected for c section due to personal reasons but was still very nervous about it bc it is a major surgery. 5th floor check in was a little confusing but that was the "worst" part. The staff was really helpful and friendly providing directions when I did get lost initially. Then after check in, the nursing staff on the 5th floor was so friendly and tried to make me as comfortable and not nervous as possible. My anesthesiologist, Rishi and ob, Catalin were so great. The operation went better than I could've imagined. I had no issues or complications. Rishi provided status of what was going on and when things were wrapping up. Truthfully, everything is a blur... and everything happened fairly quickly so I can't recall details with baby. My husband was able to hold him immediately after he was born. I think I held him maybe 30 min or 1 hr after. After he got his vaccines... 7th floor for recovery was also great. All the nurses were really friendly... some were more attentive than others but they were all supportive and helpful. I can't remember anyone's names unfortunately but everyone from 5th and 7th were great. The bed wasn't the most comfortable and food was ok but it works. The hospital has everything you would need for yourself and the baby. I really loved the swaddles they had...too bad we couldn't take any home. They were nice and thick. We received a lot of help with diaper changes, breastfeeding, formula when I didn't produce and baby weight went down, first bath, circumcision/umb core care, water and pain meds provided constantly. I really don't have any complaints. For parking, paid for 7 day vs the daily to save some costs."
