"Unfortunately for this medical group, I had a really amazing OBGYN before I moved here so I was comparing them to the very best. When I was assigned to Dr. Angelyn Thomas, I was elated because she had been in the military and had an impressive educational background. I initially really liked her. However, it was difficult to see her because she only worked in that clinic on Tuesdays, and I wish this was communicated upfront because this detail made it very difficult to see her. I also have to mention that her attitude toward me seemed to take a dramatic turn after a visit when I forgot to remove a religious undergarment-- she tried to help me lift my shirt to perform an ultrasound (therefore seeing my religious undergarment) and I really really hope that her change in attitude was something unrelated but I couldn't help notice her shift in how she treated me afterwards. My first appointment with her was very warm and friendly, but subsequent appointments were very cold and she had no patience if I had a question. I wasn't trying to be difficult, I simply wanted to know what to expect with the constant changes going on during 2020 and to mentally prepare myself to respond well to situations I might not enjoy. At one point, I was having difficulty walking, and she insisted my pain and walking ability was normal (fortunately, I already had children and knew this was NOT normal). I requested physical therapy or whatever she might suggest so I could walk without pain, but she insisted I didn't have a problem, wrote the referral, but wouldn't write a reason WHY so my insurance wouldn't cover it. In fact, she insisted that I was doing something wrong to cause my pain, but she wouldn't say what! I ended up going to someone else for advice, and I was able to walk normally again without pain. Young moms who are new to this medical group: discomfort during pregnancy is normal but pain is NOT NORMAL. My breaking point was when I was asking Dr Thomas about my options (Due to many changes in our state in 2021, I wanted her opinion about some choices I was facing regarding giving birth but she interrupted without listening and responded curtly, "You have no choice." She made it very apparent that she cared more about herself, and while I knew the care of my infant was good in her hands, she did not care about my well-being. Even though I was toward the end of my pregnancy, I wanted a doctor who shared my joy in having a child and cared about my well being so I asked for a different doctor within the group. Even though my chart said I had switched to a different doctor, I was automatically scheduled with Dr Thomas for my next appointment and had to call to switch it. She was also the doctor who responded in email to my labs. I'm so grateful that I'd already had experienced excellent OBGYNS for my previous children who cared so much my baby's AND my own health so I could recognize when I needed to find other treatment (although I wish I'd acted sooner). Also, their waiting room smells absolutely awful."
