Reviews
"This is a beautiful, well crafted little museum in a small agricultural town with a past connection to the glory days of Hollywood. The introductory film in the visitor center was a bit rough and grainy, but fascinating and well worth watching. The center is devoted to remnants recovered from the buried set of DeMille's "Ten Commandments," memorializing an environmental activist who kept a nuclear plant from being built on the dunes, local natural history, and a collection of jars of sand from around the world. The docent who gave me a tour was so enthusiastic and informative. So I was very happy I stopped to visit the center even though the dunes are currently closed to road traffic and visitors."
"Great museum with history of the Lost City of Cecile DeMille. Head out to Oso Flaco Lake trail afterwards for an excellent, scenic 2 mile RT hike"
"Small but excellent museum. Highlights include items found in the dunes after Cecil deMille's silent film Ten Commandments that was filmed in 1923 and the set was left to waste / covered by the rapidly moving dunes there. Staff are extremely helpful and kind."
"Nice visitor center to check out and start your day at the dunes!"
"One of California's Hidden Treasures... Cecil B demille's movie of The Ten Commandments was filmed here. The great shots of all the Egyptian artifacts they were buried in the sand are now being excavated here and shown in their Museum they must stop and visit on your way up to Pismo Beach."
