"Don't just buy boots from the PX next door without checking out Patriot Outfitters first! Good boots are important for soldiers because we pound our feet a lot (to say the least!) Footcare is key, for well, basic soldiering tasks. There are so many variables that go into picking the right pair of boots since feet come in all shapes and sizes but also because different people may want to optimize for different uses: weight, durability of canvas, durability of sole, rucking, garrison vs. field, price, etc. The branch manager Ryan Babcock is a rock star here. I end up spending about an hour or so trying out various boots from various manufacturers, while Ryan, who is extremely knowledgeable explains to me ALL the pros and cons of each, including checking to make sure it fits my feet just right: making sure there's just enough room for the ball of the foot to swell forwards and to the sides (but not too much), making sure the heel sits right and doesn't lift too much (if at all) while I'm walking in it, etc. Because he sells so many boots, he has lots of customer feedback of which one has a higher risk of tearing at the canvas, and he even knows where common wear/tear spots on the boot are. Just an incredible wealth information that doesn't exist in manufacturer documentation, for a buyer to make a very informed purchasing decision that is unlikely to happen online. The PX next door just can't compare, since their selection is very limited (mostly heavy boots), and there's nobody to give you detailed pros/cons of the boot you're buying. You're investing in an important equipment for your foot for a few years here. Don't just buy a pair without careful consideration first. Talk to Ryan at Patriot Outfitters!"
