"Business exist for profit but prairie land towing uses exploiting and inequitable practices to ensure taking the maximum amount of money from people. 1. Refused to give itemized invoice stating charges until cash was given to them. - this is illegal 2. only open from the hours of 9 AM to 4 PM making it impossible for someone to get their car if work business hours. (And only the owner can pick up the vehicle, see 5) 3. charge an extra $150 for “special equipment”, without telling you what special equipment was used and adding this charge to any illegal tow even if it is from the street. 4. Require that you pay in cash but do not have onsite ATM. Some people do not have $350 laying around. 5. Require owner of the title of the car to pick it up- this is not a standard practice, city of Madison towing does not even require this- making it impossible for anyone but the car owner to pick up the car. Do not give them your business. The policies above exist for them to get maximum profit- the harder it is to get your car, the longer you keep it there, the more they can charge you in “storage fees”. The policies impact low income and marginalized groups even more, and not everyone has the resources to cope with these unethical practices. DO BETTER."
"Had a great experience with Prairie Land Towing when my car was stuck in the snow. Came within the hour that they said, and Joe quickly helped get me out. Professional work and made me feel safe and well coaches through the experience."
"I just have to share my experience with prairieland towing its a good laugh. I called my vehicle broke down a few days ago. morning around 8 am..it was cold. They said they were busy and could not get to me until the next day, which is understandable we just had several inches of snow and below zero temps days prior. I had another tow company and same answer but later the same day they could get it. I had to get to work and had a coworker pick me up and left it on a non-busy county hwy. Police were called and prairie land towing was then call and within 3 hours my car was towed without me being notified. Thank you prairie land towing for your fast service and $600 bill. I called and it was an emergency and deemed a hazard."
"Charged for 2 days of storage when car sat in lot for less than 20 hours and they weren’t even open before hand to get the car asap. Also was charged $1000+ for a $250 job. They then proceeded to drop my car in a foot of snow."
"Our family recently experienced a significant car crash that involved my son rolling over multiple times. Anyone that has ever experienced something like this understands the level of trauma not only the people directly involved have, but their families as well. As we began to pick up the pieces, we came into contact with a woman that identified herself as Nicole. As my son described his experience with Nicole, his aunt/my sister then called attempting to get answers (she called given she lives in Sun Prairie). She also spoke with Nicole. With still no success, I called with a clear strategy to approach whoever answered the phone with kindness, sincerity, and professionalism. I too spoke with a woman identifying herself as Nicole. From the moment she answered the phone, she presented as impolite demonstrated by the aggressive tone of her voice and refusal to answer a direct question. Once she figured out that I was the 3rd person calling about the same car and questioning why we were being told that even though the tow lot was open, we could not come to get personal belongings (most importantly needed were prescribed medications) from the car, she stated to me "I am not dealing with you people today." I asked to speak with her manager. She said that she is the weekend manager. I then asked to speak with a Director or Owner. She said he was not available and given they are a private company, she can refuse to allow access to anyone. What is important to note here is not the exchange within itself, but the way this woman spoke to me as I was still processing the fact that my son was not dead. That no matter how polite I tried to speak with her, she seemingly wouldn't or couldn't do the same. Not only was the experience completely unprofessional, Nicole was rude, insensitive, and just nasty. She threatened to hang up on me as I insisted that the owner give me a call. She seemed to indicate taking my name and phone number down stating he would call me Monday. I never received a call back. As I have read the variety of reviews about this company, I am deeply saddened and disappointed to see the plethora of reviews reporting similar experiences yet not only does this woman still remain employed, this company remains in business. It will take every person collectively coming together to refuse services by this company and for the police and other emergency responders or landlords to start to use another company. It might be a stretch given how big this company is, but it is not impossible. I would give "0" ZERO stars, but 1 is required in order to post, so that is the reason for 1 star."
