Reviews of Doheny State Beach Campground
"I love dohney Campground, but I will say the front check-in took 4 attempts to find someone and get issued our reservation slip. The camp host doesn't really host anything, but their dog ottis is cute. Teenagers running through the campsites at 3 in the morning screaming, etc. Also, the main bathroom with showers was closed for cleaning at 7:30am on a Saturday. You would think you clean them before the most busy time possible. Location is amazing. Unfortunately, people suck lmao."
"Wonderful beach access location. We set up our 16’ bell tent on site 118. Train noise and traffic rumbles but the sounds of waves crashing makes this a worthy respite. Camp hosts were just fine. Bathrooms are kept clean. All good! Beach sites need far advance reservation. The non - beach sites are pretty small and are good RV/Car camping sites…"
"Beautiful beach campground, a bit on the high side for no hook-ups, but worth it! The only way to get into this place beach front is by booking 6 months in advance and having flexible dates. Take a shovel in case of rain and your site is flooded so its not too difficult to fill in a puddle with sand from the berm. Dana Point harbor and good restaurants are close by. We go in December each year."
"Only good thing is location and easy access to town/other beaches. Horrible treatment by camp host. (Long blonde hair) Knocking on doors like a swat team. Writing tickets everywhere all while the Park is flooded. Garbage everywhere. Dead animals all over the beach from river washing in. Paying for showers and $30 per vehicle and most sites were flooded out. Host banged on our door at 8:08pm to tell us generators are off at 8! The next morning people had generators on as early at 8am and park rules 10 is the earliest. She must love her job. Exciting. Sadly we are nice and humble people and she weirdly needed power in our experience. Hope better for you but I expect this is normal here."
"This is a great campground for beginner campers. Safe, easy access to the town, cell service, flushable toilets and showers. I wouldn’t camp here unless I was in a premium spot on the beach. The rest of the campground is really tight sites. You have a beautiful beach and the waves at night, but you also have the train and the traffic at night also. We had spot 66, in November, so it felt like we had the campsite and the beach to ourselves. Plus there are lots of RVs, which is great, cuts down the noise. Premium sites is the way to go."
