"The area is sketchy. The building exterior looks rather stark. Lobby not much better. They are doing a lot of work and refurbishment. Rooms are good. Kept clean by hard working housekeeping. Modern plumbing and electrical fixtures. Good size tv. Comfy bed. Staff is courteous and helpful. It's fine for the price. I spent nine days and would be glad to stay again."
"Although the building is old and there are some homeless people around, the rooms are spacious and relatively clean. When I checked in, the professional front desk staff provided me with a lot of help, making me feel like I had met old friends. There's nothing that could have brightened my mood more than this."
"This is an old building. There are roaches, but there's also a Home Depot in walking distance. Parking is right next door and is as cheap as you'll find ($10 a night) and GATED. There are either bouncers or guests who watch the front all night long, which is actually comforting, because they know the area and what to watch for. they're friendly and helpful if you have questions. If you need the gate open, staff will open it 24/7 on request. There is an elevator (vintage with a gate!) and strong verizon cell reception, at least from the 4th floor. I had trouble with the free wifi, but was able to mobile hotspot and get a strong connection. Checked the bedding and it looked very clean, although we did bring our own sheets in case and put them on top because we find them more comfortable, but if you're just looking for a place to crash the stock ones are more than sufficient. Mattresses are firm but not uncomfortable, and brand new looking based on the fact that they still had new ones in bags in the lobby and ours looked new when we checked it. Bring some roach traps, keep your food closed, and bring some disinfectant if those bother you. Rooms are aged but well kept. There are no chairs but there is a small table so bring camp chairs if you need them. For the price and location and the availability last minute you really can't ask for more. Great staff make the experience much better than if it was mediocre. Great food trucks and shopping as well as restaurants are within 20 minutes walking or a cheap Uber/lyft away, never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a driver."
"The employees make this hotel a stand out among its budget friendly peers - okay - neighborhood roach motel/sketch magnets. All put downs aside, these employees show a genuine sense of pride and dedication to good guest services and friendly hospitality, no matter who comes in or out. A welcome change from previous frontline employees here. Despite the "where there's one there's a thousand", creepy crawly invaders coming out of the depths of these old interiors and bathroom areas, the rooms are well kept, clean and freshened well enough that you shrug it off as getting what you paid for. That being said, the roach issue is problematic and needs to be dealt with. So far, thumbs up to no crazy cash deposits (if any at all) or the ever-demeaning no-guest policy (ridiculous) - possibly due to renovation noise and dusty drywall construction. Yes, it's being spruced up. The lobby is now kept open and inviting all hours of the day which is convenient for the late night options that draw people to an overnight downtown. This means accessible front desk associates standing guard and available nearly every minute, from what I can tell. These are not the borderline thugs and pitbulls I experienced previously here, or at many other LA businesses that unleash them on customers every minute of the day. Definitely a decent value - and not a totally regrettable choice whatsoever for a downtown Los Angeles budget stay. Well done."
