Reviews of Hotel Metropolitan Long Beach
"Now don’t get me wrong - the rooms are large and comfy - and very modern. Although there isn’t 24/7 lobby service the communication from them about getting into the hotel and your room was very timely. It’s just at 2 am some bar let out and the patrons were loud and rowdy while the hourly car alarms on the street were a bit too much to sleep by. Location is great with excellent coffee options nearby since the pod coffee machine in our room produced colored water. Linens were clean as was the room."
"Called and set up early check in for 1pm and they "forgot". OK no biggie, we were told to come back at 2:30pm and the room would be ready.....nope!!!!! Came back at 2:45pm and nothing had been touched. Had to call the phone number the hotel provided and waited another 15 minutes for someone to show up. Absolutely rediculous!!! So regular check in is at 3pm and our room is still not ready!!! Now we find ourselves sitting outside our room waiting for the guy to clean our room. Called the hotel number to request another room or something and now no answer at all. Looks like we will be late to out formal event tonight...thanks Hotel Metropolitan."
"I absolutely loved my stay at the hotel metropolitan. When booking I specifically asked what amenities they offered as their cost was well below others. They advised their rooms had very basic amenities to cut down cost. We stayed in a King's suite for $359, Saturday through Monday. We had everything we needed and more. They were very flexible with some of my poor planning. They allowed us to check-in a bit early and out late. Bed was comfortable, the room and walk in closet were spacious; we had basic streaming services through Hulu. Many things were in walk-in distance, or via free transport e.g., Von's grocery store, lots of convenience stores, King's Fish House, Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles, Thai District, The Potholder, Feline Cat Lounge, Long Beach Theatre, The Aquarium , The Queen Mary, etc. I had to order a headset from Amazon and the owner was nice enough to allow me to deliver it to her house and she brought it over to me herself. They do not have a consistent front desk representative, but their team is always a phone call or email away to help when needed. And honestly, I came across a few during my stay that were happy to help if needed. For the price, it was way above my expectations and we'd happily celebrate another anniversary in this wonderful establishment! Thanks Terry!!"
"You definitely get what you pay for at this place. I like that this hotel is in a good location and the room was a decent size with a kitchenette. The downside is that there is no staff at the front desk ever, so if you have an issue, it's hard to get ahold of someone. For example, I went out to load some of my luggage into the car the day I checked out and couldn't get back into the hotel to get the rest of my luggage. I honestly didn't know what to do at that point since no one at the front desk. Thankfully someone was coming out so I got back in. There is also no parking on the premises. You have to park somewhere 5 minutes away and it's $15 a day."
"This review is specifically for the room that I got.. room 302. This is a very quaint hotel that is obviously refurbished from a very old building. It was well done. Initially, when we got into the room I was impressed. But I was wondering why the window was open because I can hear the street noise very clearly. I opened the curtains to find the windows closed. But one window was not and cannot be closed properly therefore there was a gap and all the noise and breeze was coming in (see photo). The latter was not a problem because it was warm day. However that window gap became a problem in the evening when the bar across the street was partying it up and two ladies decided to have a screaming contest to see who was louder. The kitchen was quaint and functional and clean. The washroom... well, probably my least favorite of anything from the room. Zero counter space. I had to bring a stool from the kitchen so we had a place to hold toiletries. There was a medicine cabinet but the shelves were narrow and loose. If you put anything heavy on it, high chance it would fall. Which would not be a good thing because the sink drain was wide open (see photo). I had to make sure my wife did not put any of her jewelry near the sink. Our room had a bathtub shower with shower curtains (friends of ours stayed down the hall and they had a glass shower). I don't mind the bathtub set up but the shower curtain had mold (see photo) A very concentrated amount of mold. It was so bad I feared health risks and removed that part of the curtain (inner liner) and took it outside to where the cleaning cart was left down the hall. AND The liquid shower soap dispenser was empty. Lucky I was able to find a new bar of hand soap on that formentioned cleaning cart. The bed was the best part of the room. If you like firm mattresses then you will be happy. The parking became an issue. From the checking in instructions that was sent to me, I thought that all we had to do was let the staff know that we intended to park down the block at another hotel's parking lot and pay cash of $15 a day. What I didn't know was that the staff at the Metropolitan upon request for parking would pay upfront to the other hotel for those spots and get you a swipe parking card. We would then leave cash when checking out to pay the Metropolitan back. We got lucky and found free street parking so we didn't use the arranged hotel parkinf thinking we would save ourselves $30 (we stayed for two nights). At check out, we were told that we would need to pay back the Metropolitan for parking. I disagreed because I did not know the money was fronted. The impression I got was I would pay the parade $15 when we were done parking there. In summary: Pros: clean, quaint, comfortable bed, functional kitchen, location (as long as you keep south and head to the water, it's all very nice). Staff response (when I used the Expedia message service they answered in decent time). The staff and I negotiated a fair price as a result of the arranged parking miscommunication (which I don't think they were too happy about). Cons: parking, unclear instructions re parking. Lack of parking. Street parking does cost money during peak hours. Loud bar across the street + single paned (and not closing fully) windows. Moldy shower curtains, lack of bathroom counterpart, failure to refill the soap, and nothing to cover the bathroom drain. No elevator (for us this was not a problem but may be for others). No staff around (self check in). Remember, this is my experience from room 302. If I had gotten another room that didn't have mold and proper windows, I would say I would stay there again."
