"Every experience I have had at this salon has been wonderful. All the staff is pleasant. My stylist Umeka is professional and does an amazing job on my hair every time. I recommend people there every chance I get."
"Umeka is a great stylist with great professionalism, she always greet and listen to me as a client. I love the atmosphere at shear pink, the staff is fun to be around. Thanks for great customer service, clean atmosphere, and patience!!! 5/5"
"Umeka claims to offer many services but unless you’re getting some type of weave DO NOT GO HERE!!! She had cupcake crumbs on her vanity booth and set the styling tools on top like it was ok. The salon looked nice but smelled like old garbage. She had her stylist do a strand test on my hair for coloring in the middle of my head which should have been done at the nape. After I got home the section where my strand test was done was an unusually large section and had been cut very short to hide the fact that my hair burned and broke off. At the time I had long hair and couldn’t help but wonder if this was done purposely. She acts as if she doesn’t really like doing hair but wants your money. Which she charges way too much for the quality of service. Wig installs, weaves, and wigs she can do but if you want your natural hair done and happen to be a new client don’t bother she will jack you up. Her and her little minion are very immature and unprofessional. -5 ⭐️"
"Styling - 5/5 Experience 2/5 My fiancé and I were taking engagement pictures and I wanted to get my hair professionally done since I do it at home the majority of the time. I've followed Umeka on Instagram for awhile and always admired her work, so I booked an appointment with her and I was also interested in her doing my hair for the wedding. I originally scheduled for a half up/half down quick weave, but decided to get a sleek ponytail instead. When I texted her before hand about changing the service, she was very nice and was cool with me bringing my own shampoo/conditioner since I'm vegan and only use plant based products. I've been natural the majority of my life and my hair is also super thick and dense. I noticed that she has worked with thicker textures before, but I didn't think that would be an issue until I walked in the door. I made sure I was on time and had everything that I needed. Instead of being greeted when I walked in, her and another stylist just looked at me. I said "I have a 9 am appointment." She told me I could have a seat and I waited for about 20 mins until she finished up another client, which is what I expected. When she was done, she walked over and said "you're getting a ponytail?" and I replied "yes." She said "you're gonna make me work today" (which she kept saying throughout my appointment). I'm used to people talking about how thick my hair is, so I took it as a joke at first. She washed and blow-dried my hair super quick (the quickest wash I've ever had in a salon) which made me feel like she rushed through it. After that, I went over to the chair and she began to blow dry it. THIS is what made me feel uncomfortable... Another stylist came over and Umeka said "guess what she's getting done?" The other stylist asked what it was and she replied "a ponytail." The other stylist gasped and said that she should take before and after pictures. Umeka said something like "I will, but if I post it, I don't want people thinking they can come to me with hair like this." Even if you did feel this way...why would you say it out loud with me there? I was super taken aback by it and felt that it was rude, but didn't respond or say anything because I thought maybe I was over reacting. However, her energy was off the entire time. She barely talked to me or interacted me throughout the hour and a half that she completed my hair. I even asked her towards the end if she does bridal trials and what's the best way to book that, which she answered, but didn't seem enthusiastic about me booking it or coming back. She asked me when I was getting married, but didn't say congratulations or anything which I found weird because almost everybody that I say that to, says it. I ended up giving her a $20 tip because of the quick it was (1 hour and 30 mins total) and how great she did with the style. She is VERY talented so I definitely give her 5/5 stars for the styling portion. However, after talking to few folks about my experience, I decided won't be going back and I'll find another stylist to do my hair for the wedding. It was very clear and evident and she didn't want to do my hair, but at the very least, she could've kept those comments to herself and I felt that it was super unprofessional. Besides doing quality work, apart of the stylist's job is to make you feel welcome, appreciated, and wanting to come back which I didn't feel either of. If you have thinner hair or get a different style then I did, I'm sure your experience will be much different than mine. However, if you have super thick hair like me, this may not be the person for you. I respect her work, but not the unprofessionalism, so I will not be returning."
