Reviews of Roots Salon
"I had amazing experience today at Roots in Wauwatosa. My hair was done by an awesome woman named Del! She was beyond professional and knew what she was doing! I felt like I was in great hands with her. She did my Balayage and styled my hair. I had shown her an inspo picture and it turned out exactly how I wanted it to. Not only was her conversation great but she made my time very comfortable. I didn't feel rushed and felt like her main priority. I have already booked another appointment for a future trim in a few weeks with her. I'm beyond pleased with my hair. I'm pleased to say I have found my hair place (and hair lady) I also purchased some new shampoo and they gave me a new client discount on the product! That's customer service!"
"I went to this Roots for the first time, went to Leah M and did not disappoint!!! I have had bad experiences with my hair before and now Leah will be the only person I go to! All I went for was a simple bang trim and I was in and out in like 15 minutes (which I understand) but it wasn’t rushed! I absolutely love it!!"
"I’ve been getting biweekly manicures for six years. This was hands down the worst manicure I’ve ever received. I arrived with almond nails but wanted to switch back to oval. I provided the stylist with a picture of my nails from a month or so ago (when they were oval) as a reference point on shape and size. Instead of shaping them to the appropriate length, she cut them down super short and spent almost no time filing them. There are four different shapes between the ten nails in varying lengths. None of them are even or symmetrical and they look nothing like the picture I provided. There is polish on my hands/skin and my thumb chipped within 90 mins of departing the salon. She did make an effort to fix them but just didn’t seem comfortable using a file. I shared my concerns with the woman at the front desk who then offered to have me return the next day so an alternate employee could do a “redo”. When I arrived the “stylist” told me she couldn’t do much to fix the shape. She removed the polish on my pinky using only a drummell (she didn’t soak, wrap or use any polish remover at any time). I told her she was hurting me snd her solution was to let me know about a nail place nearby that does good work which I guess was helpful. She then fixed two nails but refused to do the rest stating “it would cause unnecessary wear and tear to my nails”. It does cause wear and tear when you refuse to soak the polish off. She appeared unconcerned and disinterested when I told her I’d have to pay a second salon for the same service (not to mention the three hours of time). I could deal with shoddy work but the disregard for both my time and money is disappointing. Why have me return and then refuse to perform the promised “redo”. I will say the first employee was trying her best but she specializes in hair and didn’t seem comfortable doing nails. I still tipped 20% because she was clearly making an effort (and she did a very nice job on my eyebrows so it just seemed wrong to leave a bad tip). The second employe (who recommended an alternate salon) was curt - almost to the point of being hostile and appeared completely disinterested in anything other than getting me out the door. If she had done nails at least one other time in her life, she’d have known you have to soak off polish before using a drummel. She either doesn’t do nails (in which case shouldn’t have been elected to fix my manicure) or has a complete disregard for the health and safety of others. Either way, this salon is exposing their clients to risk. I have included a photo of my nail after the second employee “fixed” the chip."
"I had a horrible experience at this location. I love roots and it’s my tride and true. i had never tried this location and decided to because they were able to get me in last minute. I came in with bleach blonde hair and asked for my roots to be touched up and to add a few natural dirty blonde lowlights to blend the roots a little more. this is what they let me walk out like. I had to pay for the products used and they did not fix it for me or give me any type of service or coupons or anything to make up for it. Manager said it looked like 2000 christina aguilera. the girl who did my hair showed no remorse and did not apologize once. I had to pay even more than usual to get it fixed and had to damage my hair even more in the process. I would not reccomend the wauwatosa location and especially the girl i saw. Horrible horrible experience and will never be returning to this location."
"I have been to Roots twice. Once for a gel manicure when I first moved to Milwaukee 5 years ago and again recently for an updo trial. Both times I had a terrible experience and I would never recommend their services. Not only was the manicure the most expensive gel manicure I have ever paid for (and I'm from Chicago), I also left with a mess/polish around my nails, a thick layer of polish, and within a day the polish began to chip. My recent experience was even worse with my updo trial. The birds nest of a mess that I walked out with was a complete disaster. I showed two inspiration photos and described what looks good on me and what I like to the stylist. None of that was done. I have never seen such a terrible updo in my life and I have had many by numerous stylists. The stylist also had me facing away from the mirror the entire time she was styling where I was constantly facing the client next to me. It was awkward as I was basically forced to stare at the client and listen to her chatting. I did not want to make a scene in front of other customers after I gave the stylist constructive criticism of what changes need to be made so I unwillingly paid, left, and contacted the salon for a refund afterwards. The girl at the desk couldn't do anything so the manager had to be contacted. Well...they do not do refunds and offered to reschedule my trial with another stylist. For a wedding that is a few weeks away how am I supposed to get in with someone who is available at the time I need on wedding day so last minute? I declined this offer and they eventually offered to give me a 50% refund after contacting the general manager. This to me is unacceptable. On top of that I was the one that had to call the salon after these email exchanges to get the refund instead of them automatically refunding me. I have called multiple times now and either the manager is not in or unavailable. The girls at the desk have no knowledge about the refund. Not only has this taken my time and energy with exchanging emails with the manager, writing this review, and making multiple phone calls to the salon, but I will not be receiving a full refund. Do not waste your time at these salons. Someone that used to work there told me that the girls are straight out of beauty school and are forced to perform services that they are either not trained properly in or not passionate about. Save your time, energy and money and go somewhere else. Photos attached."
