"Brought my son here. The lady at the front was not friendly (however she had a lot of fun showing pics on her phone to another employee but couldn't hardly muster a smile to greet us or as she spoke with him). The nurse who came and got my son to take him back was also rude and rushing him. She did a terrible job on the IV - poked him then dug for a long time then he finally told her it hurt she said she wanted to try more... finally gives up goes to the other arm uses a "small" needle gets it right away and says "This arm was easy." - He's sitting there thinking that's literally why he asked her to look over both first. (He had asked her to look over both arms first and she said "no this one is fine." But was wrong.) He got nauseous from the contrast (hasn't happened previously but can happen IF someone gives it too fast). Mind you- this is a stressful health thing and they aren't even kind or patient- really didn't give a care. Afterwards, he was dizzy getting up- then they took him to a dressing room and told him he can find his way out. He ended up outside the building and called me to tell me he's not sure where he was exactly but was outside of the bounding now. I can't imagine how they treat elderly or those with disabilities if this is how they treat people who can speak up and tell someone of their experience. They definitely need training on how to be compassionate to patients. Health is extremely stressful- the last thing they should do is add to it! Also- I went to the front woman after my son went back- to make sure he had paid the copay (I had to run to the car to get something I forgot so I didn't get to see if he paid or not). I told her that I can pay the copay if he hadn't already- doesn't even look up just says, "Nope we don't do that here you'll get a bill." She said it like almost annoyed I even asked. The building was nearly empty (being a Sat). She acts too busy to even look at us yet has time to chat with her friends working. Also someone behind the desk was listening to a book loud and that was also kind of strange. The whole vibe there is off. Definitely doesn't feel like people are happy to be working there or even required to perform well. Not a good look. Don't recommend coming here unless of course you have to. The only thing that went well was the appointment was kept right on time - he was laying on the MRI bed right on the dot."
"MONEY HACK: How to avoid paying excessively expensive medical procedures and only pay what’s it’s worth? I saw a pulmonologist recently to check up on my lung capacity after getting over an existing cough and the doctor referred me to Hoag imaging facility just around the corner. I asked the Hoag imaging person to give me the price for self pay since we are on high deductible plan with HSA and was quoted $461.86 which was discounted from $710. I called my insurance company and asked how much other facilities around my area charge for the same procedure (CPT 71046), the rep looked on database and found that the pricing for this procedure was not listed so he made a call on my behalf and found one that only charges $40. Can you believe it??? Now the reason why I know it’s good to “shop around” because when my son broke his wrist few years ago, with the same MRi procedure and with insurance, his specialist doctor charged $80 out of pocket and Hoag charged $550 (twice). When I called to inquire, I was told it’s because it’s hospital facilities which means with high overhead, Hoag can justify charging more than 10 times. I love Hoag and sure they provide excellent services but I thought I share my experiences with you. Your insurance company rep and website database would be an excellent source to help you with medical cost planning."
"I arrived slightly early for my 4:00pm MRI Check-in. After a half hour, 4:30pm, I went up to the desk to remind them that I was still waiting. The young man at the desk asked, “are you here for an MRI?” Why he asked this surprised me since he was the one that checked me in just 35 minutes prior. I answered, “yes”, and then he announced to me that the MRI department was REALLY backed up. I returned to my seat in the waiting room, but by 4:45pm the entire room had cleared out leaving me alone, my back was in pain from sitting so long and I was struggling to stay awake….I had enough, so I left. At 5:22pm, I received a call on my cell at home informing me that a technician was ready to take me back for my MRI. After letting her know that I had left over 35 minutes ago I expressed my frustration at the horrible customer service and hung up. My frustration over the 77 minute wait paled in comparison to the nonchalant attitude that the employees exhibited over their failure to adhere to appointment times for their patients. During my life in Orange County I’ve watched Hoag grow into the major health care provider they are today. Unfortunately they’ve forgotten how to actually take care of their patients in the process, shame on you Hoag!"
"Never again will I have anything done at this Imaging center, March 01, 2021 I had an ultrasound done, but I might as well been the technician because I had to show her point by point where my issues were instead of her doing her job and scan my Abdomen (as it said unspecified area's) no, she said you have to point out the area exactly. When the issue was with my entire Abdomen. Horrible experience and I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SITE. I would give it less than a star!"
"Update: Music started playing in the waiting room about an hour after arrival. For that small boon, I'm giving Hoag a second star. We had an MRI appointment rescheduled, but it didn't get updated in their scheduling application. We even called to confirm the new time the day before and all was well--until we arrived on site. They squeezed us into a slot freed up by a cancelation, but still had to wait in a dull windowless waiting room with no television, no reading material, not even elevator music. What a way to treat customers!"
