Reviews of Massage Envy
"Update 3/4: this massage was 3 months ago and even though the manager responded to my review saying I would be contacted, I never was. To believe this woman is likely still working at this establishment is ASTOUNDING. Original Post: I have been delaying sharing this post because I was not actually sure of my massage therapists name, until my aunt went into the location and asked a different person at the desk who performed my massage for that day (11/20). Background context: my aunt has a membership and had additional credits going unused, and gifted those to me. She made my first appointment, but I called and rescheduled for another day and I never got a confirmation email, call, etc. On the phone when scheduling I told the woman 2PM and she told me “see you then!” And that was the extent. -appointment time: I arrived shortly before 2pm and when I was greeted I was not told my appointment wasn’t until 2:30. I ended up checking in with the front desk after waiting ~20 min before they told me. Ok, fine, my mistake. I continued to wait and when it turned 2:40, I kindly asked if this was normal for an appointment time? 2 minutes later my massage therapist takes me back -Therapist experience pre massage: when my therapist took me back, full transparency, the room smelled like someone was eating fast food in there. Super off putting for a 80min massage. I asked if there was another room available, noting the smell, and my therapist rudely dismissed my claims but obliged nonetheless. After getting to the new room, I thanked her profusely to which her response was “NOBODY CARES” at an extremely elevated level. At this point I was very insecure about letting her perform the massage but i had severe neck pain so I went with it. During Massage : given my lack of comfort around the woman and her demeanor, I asked that I remain partially clothed and not to me touched in certain areas (stomach, butt, upper legs). To be clear, the only follow up statement from this should be “sounds good” except I was met with eye rolling and contention. During the massage, the therapist continued to violate the areas I explicitly asked not to be touched, and when i brought it up again she said “why are you so sensitive”. I was shook, at this rate I just wanted the massage to be over. There was attitude, lack of respect, and it was not a calming environment I was looking for. There were two times she adjusted my arms around the blanket and I was completely exposed on the top. She didn’t even bother to fix this, I had to fix it myself. Other weird notes from the massage include her turning the light on multiple times, discussing her personal finances with me (FYI she shared that atleast every month she’s late on rent - why do I need to know this?), and she also kept forgetting questions she already asked me. I had to repeat no less than 3 times that I wanted to focus on my neck due to a recent injury. Post Massage: when the massage concluded, I couldn’t help but feel like it was earlier than I was anticipating. My massage therapist abruptly left saying “she’s on break” and just leaving. After looking at my phone, I noticed it was only 3:51, and my massage was supposed to be 90min (80 min for treatment). Because she was late to get me from the front, my massage didn’t start until 2:50 at the earliest. So that means I was shorted 20 minutes. Checkout Process: after leaving the room and heading to the front desk, I asked the woman what the name of my massage therapist was that day to which she replied “Sarah” and I asked for a business card. When getting home and telling my aunt about the experience, she noted to me that there is not a Sarah that works there, hence leading to the unknowing who was my massage therapist that day and having to ask again at the office itself. FYI the woman’s name was actually Susan. I have contacted corporate with this concern but wanted to bring to the attention of my local community. If you value your mind and body, I would recommend going elsewhere."
"Debbie was very sweet and arms welcoming. This was my first time getting a facial and I loved it. Definitely going to be coming back in a few days!!!"
"I have not gone to Massage Envy in Hermosa in a while due to a shoulder surgery. I went last night and had a wonderful experience with Amber. Her skill in massage therapy is excellent. I will continue to request her."
"I had the worst massage of my life here and I left a prenatal massage in so much neck and upper back pain that I did not have at all when entering the place. It's taken me a while to process the shame I felt for not being able to enjoy the prenatal massage my husband gifted me for Xmas. I actually cried during and after from having such a terrible experience for something that was supposed to help me cope with pregnancy. On December 29, I had a prenatal massage at ~31 weeks pregnant and the day before I was told to come in an hour earlier and that my massage specialist couldn't make it so someone else was subbing in. I thought to myself "well surely this sub can also handle prenatal massage, this is a professional establishment after all." I indeed was so wrong for assuming they would only allow prenatal massages to be done by someone who knows how to treat pregnant women. As soon as I enter the massage room, I notice they don't have the belly booster, which I had called the day before to confirm and was told would be relayed to the massage therapist. When I asked the massage therapist about the booster and if massage is better without it, she said "No I just prefer not to use it. Since you actually want it now I have to re-do my set up." She then proceeded to move covers forcefully and slam the booster onto the table. I immediately started this massage uncomfortable with her aggressive behavior in the room. Once the massage started, the massage therapist noticed I had big nots on my upper back and neck and she proceeded to rub them so hard with her thumb I actually yelped in pain and told her it hurt. She said "well that's because you have big knots here." She proceeded to go back to those areas and increasingly make them even more painful for what felt like half of the 90 minute massage while I kept yelping. I was shaking and silently crying through the massage at this point. My BIGGEST REGRET is not getting off the table at the beginning of the massage when I first felt uncomfortable and asking for my money back. I regret being hopeful that the massage therapist would somehow redeem herself. The massage ended 5 minutes early (though more like 10 min early she included the time it took her to set up the booster for me to change too), but I was actually so relieved it was early since I was in pain. After I got dressed I told the massage therapist that I didn't feel well and that I now had neck and shoulder pain I didn't feel before, to which she replied with a cold flat mean tone "it's normal since you had big knots there." She did not apologize once and just turned around and walked away while I saw myself out. I was in pain for a week after that. Anyone who has been pregnant knows how hard it is to sleep comfortably as is, let alone with new neck and back injuries. I told the front desk and I still had to pay. I was also told I would receive a complimentary massage from the actual prenatal massage specialist who should have treated me but I never received an email confirmation for this or any follow up."
