About the Raag Progressive Indian Cuisine
Raag Progressive Indian Cuisine, located at 3812 West 50th Street in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a revolutionary restaurant that draws inspiration from the vibrant culinary scenes of London and New York. Under new management, Raag is transforming Indian cuisine in the Midwest while still retaining its original name, which means "symphony".
The interiors of Raag, designed by Kara Bigos of Kamarron Design, are both welcoming and upscale. The bar features blue accent lamps, a glass wall backdrop, and over 100 liquor options, as well as signature cocktails that perfectly complement the venue and menu. Raag is a proud Minnesota family-owned small business.
Food critic Jon Cheng, a James Beard Judge, has named Raag as one of the top 4 hidden gem picks in the StarTribune. The restaurant also hosts special events like a Super Bowl Final Party with $6 beer, wings, nachos, and poutines.
The menu at Raag features French-inspired dishes such as seared lamb rack over mint curry and lobster tail with kedgeree pilaf rice, as well as modern Indian dishes and unique craft cocktails like the Ginger Chai Martini and Butter Chicken Martini. For those looking for non-alcoholic options, Raag offers mocktails like the Kashmiri Apple Mojito and Jungle Juice. Raag 2.0 has quickly become a local favorite for its innovative fusion of flavors and upscale dining experience.

Reviews of Raag Progressive Indian Cuisine
"After a tiring week I was not in the mood to go out last Friday but I'm sure glad we did. A friend suggested we try Raag and since I love Indian cuisine, we agreed. It turned out to be a phenomenal choice. We'll definitely be returning to try more of the amazing dishes on the menu. For starters we had the Jal Tarang, a fun dish with some sort of semolina balls and flavored water, followed by the Cauliflower Koliwada. The Koliwada was awesome! I ordered the Kashmiri Lamb Roganjosh, with a heat level of 3 (out of 4). If you love it hot, but not insanely hot, this is a good level. The dish had a luscious, deep, and complex flavor to it. It was enough for two meals but I couldn't stop eating and and ended up eating the entire dish. OMG that was tasty! Others at our table had the Palak Paneer, Lamb Rack Quinoa Pilaf, and Delhi Butter Chicken. All were very happy with their choices. For dessert my wife ordered the Mango Mousse. It looked amazing but to me it was just okay. I'm not a mango fan, however. The presentation was great though. I can't post this review without a shoutout to our fantastic server, Tatianna. She was, to me, the perfect server. She was always there at the right time. We never had look around for her. She was polite enough not to interrupt our conversations yet she readily joined in the convo when we talked to her. She was so friendly and patient with us! It's not often a server impresses me like she did. Way to go, Tatianna! Finally, a big thanks to the management for not sneaking in your business expenses as an extra "health & wellness fee" or whatever different places call it. Business expenses should be built into the menu prices, not in the fine print at the bottom of the menu. Your lack of a "fee" is greatly appreciated!"
"We had dinner here last Saturday and haven't stopped thinking about it! Everything was great from the ambiance to the service to the food and spice levels. (We ordered Medium and it had a nice kick to it). Favorite app for me was the paneer - I've never had it served that way but it was fantastic! For an entree you can't go wrong with the Butter Chicken. Don't forget about the cocktails - I had a martini with tikki misala and it was amazing! Perfectly balanced with different notes throughout. This restaurant reminds us of the way they do Indian food in London. 5 stars!"
"The food was fine, the atmosphere was fine. I was rather underwhelmed to be honest. I expected so much more but was let down because everything was just fine. The taste palate is not catered to Indians and it is more for other ethnicities. Chutney is called sauce and there is no dish that is actually spicy on the menu. This is definitely not an authentic Indian experience and is more a western version of indian food. The portion sizes were smaller than usual as well."
"Raag did a full 2.0 relaunch, so if you visited before 10/21/23, it was a much different menu! The quality and fantastic atmosphere are the same, but I very much feel like the menu is improved (I was eating at Raag both before the relaunch and before the current owner). The best thing about Raag is that it is elevated, but accessible, Indian cuisine. There's no judgment if it's your first foray into Indian food, but there are plenty of delicious staple dishes and fun twists on classics if you're more familiar with the food. A great example is the makhani martini - it might be a little intense for a newbie, but I thought it was phenomenal. There's a great variety of family-style plates and dishes that are plated for one, but I always find I have the best time when I go with a group and we just order a variety and share. The drinks are also all phenomenal, and I always appreciate their commitment to tasty and fun non-alcoholic options. I would HIGHLY recommend their new brunch and happy hour menu -- the new happy hour butter chicken tacos are amazing. Their new brunch menu truly feels like the kind of menu that can handle both a fun girls' day brunch vibe while also satisfying a "I'm craving Indian food" itch. Until their new brunch menu, I never associated Indian food with brunch necessarily, but now I am itching to get a group of friends together so we can go and all sip some drinks and share some dishes and eat more of the amazing red velvet cake. Whether you've got a first date, want to impress a work crew at happy hour, or just want to relax and eat phenomenal food, Raag is the place. They have found a way to balance elevated cuisine with the experience of being a regular where the owner knows your name and greets you with postitive energy and spot-on recommendations. This is truly a unique, exceptional restaurant."
