Reviews of Volcan Mountain Trailhead
"Beautiful as always but cold and windy - it was midday and a storm is allegedly blowing in though. The trail is in fine shape. Not too many people or dogs out on a Thursday afternoon. The views included seeing the ocean and Salton Sea. I'm glad my two dogs and I hiked up today."
"Great moderate hike to sweeping views of the coast and the Salton Sea. Gorgeous mature oaks along the trail and a small copse of Calocedrus decurrens towards the ridge line. Can get frosty up there in winter time, but worth it."
"Volcan Mountain is one of our favorite trails in San Diego County. It is best to hike here when the weather is cool - Fall, Winter & Spring - but that is our own preference, we don't like to hike in summer heat. Though there are some shaded areas along the trail, much of the way is in the open, especially along the ridge to the top. We usually take the Five Oaks Trail, where it's more scenic, but either way will take you to a fantastic view of Shelter Valley and Anza-Borrego Desert. Literally looking down to the desert is an awesome experience."
"Beautiful trail sponsored by the locals. There is a time capsule buried on the top. The trail is very neat but you need to bring a bug spray tick spray fly spray I did and we didn't get bit by anything and any takes to try to jump on us did not make it. If you start in the trail to the right get shade and wooded areas which is beautiful and great views and coming down the steeper side. You don't have quite as much shane, but it's a larger fire road. There was a nice breeze the whole time which really helped out with the heat. Overall a great trail. Wonderful views of the local farms"
"Nice day to be on the trails. Not too cold and not too hot. Patches of snow on the trail. Got colder as we got to the top but not as windy as expected. On the way up it was overcast and on the way down it was a clear beautiful blue skies. Took the Five Oaks Trail on the way down and the views were pretty. Enjoy the trail!"
