"The food had a unique blend of flavors that I never tasted before such as elk that is corn-crusted and served with garlic squash aioli. Also, the squash custard served with meringue and bison fat caramel adds an elevated touch to a flan-like dessert. The tea was also pretty good. However, it was pretty expensive but that is to be expected with fine dining."
"Such a cool place- we made reservations in advance and were seated promptly with a table that had gorgeous views of the bridge and skyline. The servers were kind and accommodating to our varied questions. The food was superb- our favorites were the half duck, bison ribeye, the antelope spoonbread, the walleye fish cakes, sweet potato, and marichou caramelized corn... wait, that was everything we ordered! Everything was a favorite. I really liked the hot Chagalatte beverage, too! I also loved that everything was inherently gluten-free since wheat is a colonizer food. Cozy modern ambiance with a creative and fresh palate. Can't wait to go again!"
"We got lucky and were able to reserve a table for two on the spur of the moment for an impromptu anniversary lunch. We were seated at a table window with a beautiful view of St. Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River. Native American music gives the modern space a warm and welcoming vibe. The food is authentic and served up fresh in a lovely presentation. We started with Superior Whitefish Cakes (2 per order). They are superb. I think I’ll double our order next time! We then got 2 pheasant tacos each, the special of the day. They too were remarkable and utterly flavorful. Who knew fresh raspberries would pair so well with pheasant! We also got the fire roasted pumpkin. It is a work of art. It is pumpkin/squash, so that is flavor you get. The side sauces didn’t add a lot to the flavor. I think I’ll try something else next time. The drinks were excellent. I got hot white blueberry tea. My partner got the Maple Sarsaparilla (cold ice tea). The experience was perfect for a celebratory meal. I’m sure we will be back! If you haven’t been here yet, I highly recommend planning a visit soon."
"Got the elk beans, sweet potatoes, and wild rice pudding. Everything was incredible. The elk was so tender and the dish had a stew like texture which was excellent with the chips on top. But the sweet potatoes were the real showstopper - wonderful flavor, superb appearance, and truly so fun to deconstruct / eat. The wild rice tasted like a PB&J and as a lover of that sandwich, I was so impressed. If you’re thinking about going here, go!!!"
"Excellent unique cuisine in a beautiful location. Chef Sean Sherman has created a varied menu featuring ingredients used by indigenous peoples. They offer wine and beer but do not offer alcoholic mixed drinks because of the way alcohol has harmed indigenous communities. The New Yorker called Owamni the best new restaurant in 2022. I don’t know that I would go that far, but you will enjoy the experience. You may have to reserve a few months in advance."
