Reviews of Eggdonut's Cafe
"We ordered breakfast and coffee at the counter. The server brought glasses of water and plates of food to the table next to us, but never brought us water or our food. Finally we went back up to the counter and asked about our food. The server said “we called that out a long time ago. It’s cold now.” I am not sure why they expected us to go back to the counter to pick up our food when they were serving other tables around us. It was not a to go order. They remade the food, but the service was definitely less than desirable. There were also stacks of dishes on several tables. Apparently they expected people to bus their own dishes, but that expectation was also not made clear. It’s too bad the service was so poor because we really liked the coffee shop that used to be in this space."
"NEW OWNERSHIP- STILL GREAT COFFEE! My hubby and I found this place when it was still The Salty Tart, which was taken over by Truestone Coffee Roasters, which has now been bought by the people who own Bullvino’s next door (yummy place btw). I gatta say that I have been a patron through many ups and downs of this space. I can tell you that I am ECSTATIC they will continue to serve Truestone Coffee because out of the entire Twin Cities, Truestone beans are my favorite! I find them roasted beautifully every time with no burnt taste that signifies over roasting and contributed to a higher acid content acting up my reflux. I also find the quality of the drinks made here superior to other specialty coffee shops in the Metro area. Their seasonal drinks are made very flavorful without extra added chemicals (at least in my experience). Their seasonal pumpkin was awesome but my favorite drink is the caramel latte. So good! They do now have an extensive breakfast menu that includes lots of egg options (eggdonuts, omelets, Benedict’s, pancakes, extras) as well as lunch options with sandwiches, burgers, specialties, AND an impressive dessert menu :) In the past I would have a pastry from the case, made from Patisserie 46, which were yummy but I am looking forward to trying out their new breakfast. They are working out some glitches so patience will be greatly appreciated. I know they are hoping to make this place a welcoming and delicious spot for everyone who visits. Heads up, parking is free in the street a couple of blocks up and paid parking is free on the street on Sunday’s. Otherwise expect to pay a couple of dollars for an hour visit. For me, knowing that I will receive an amazing cup of coffee, it has been worth it. Plus, I often go with a friend and we split the cost so I find a dollar for parking not so bad!"
"We discovered this coffee shop after a chilly morning exploring the St. Paul farmers market. While the drinks were quite tasty (earning the overall rating an extra star), the kindest thing I could say about the workers is that they could all have used a couple extra shots of espresso. The girl at check out and my barista, both of them I politely interacted with, could not have seemed less interested. The atmosphere is stuck in between trying to be both upscale and cozy, and doesn’t really accomplish either. Thank goodness their drinks are good (at least they have a good foundation to build on) but there are other, better coffee shops in St. Paul."
"Good coffee, bright and sunny in the morning, good places. It’s right across the street from the stadium and farmer’s market in lower-town. Had a cortado and it was tasty. Just having a cortado on the menu is often a good sign the shop know what it is doing. Plenty of parking at the farmers market and on the street."
"It has a good coffee. But something doesn't let me give it 5 stars. Might be the atmosphere that bothered me. I didn't have a feeling that I want to stay there longer and enjoy my beverage. Cafe itself is big, but doesn't have its own style."
