About the La Merenda
Welcome to La Merenda, a casual tapas bar & restaurant located in Milwaukee's historic Walker's Point. From antipasti to meze, local brews to South American wines, we will satisfy your craving for regional and international flavor. In Italian, La Merenda means "early snack" and refers to an Italian custom of early evening socializing and gathering to share food and drink amongst friends and family. We are honored to have been gathering with you at La Merenda since February 14, 2007.
La Merenda is located in a renovated woodworking shop which has been painted and decorated in bright colors to make the restaurant energetic, full of light and fun so people enjoy a unique cultural experience. The restaurant features a welcoming bar of concrete, walnut base and Italian ceramic tile, as well as restored and stained antique tables and chairs. In 2013, we added a patio with ample seating, varying degrees of shade, an outdoor bar and fireplace, and a vegetable garden from which we source some of our ingredients.
We are committed to the preservation of the family farm way of life by incorporating local, seasonal items into our menus wherever possible. This practice creates menus that are not only better for us, but also, more socially and environmentally responsible. Our maximum online reservation size is 10 people. For parties larger than 10 guests, please call the restaurant for availability. We look forward to seeing you soon at La Merenda!

Reviews of La Merenda
"Fantastic tapas/small plates restaurant! Many unique and tasty plates to choose from. My favorite was the trout. They also offer a decent selection of cocktails and wine. I particularly enjoyed their house sangria. The restaurant is small on the inside with a bar you can sit at as well. Apparently, they have a sizable outdoor patio for when the weather warms up. Street parking can be a little challenging depending on the hour but I was able to find a spot not too far away. I can’t wait to go back again and try some more dishes!"
"Came here for an anniversary dinner right when the restaurant opened up at 5. We ordered wayyy too much food, but definitely glad we did. We ordered the mushroom risotto, shrimp sambal, Mexican braised veal, poutine, Argentinian beef, Moroccan braised goat, and the duck Thai curry. Everything was amazing, but I would like to highlight a few dishes in particular. The mushroom risotto was absolutely amazing, and would definitely recommend when coming here. We paired a bite from the Argentinian beef, and that bite felt like heaven. Next, the poutine. It was topped with an egg and had gravy underneath it. It was so rich and creamy with the soft potatoes, which just made the dish perfect. And the last dish I would like to mention is the Moroccan braised goat. This dish was interesting. The couscous was an amazing texture to have alongside the sauce and meat that they paired it with. For the total, it came out to $140 with tax and tip. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants I’ve visited in Milwaukee!"
"La Merenda was scrumptious! Went here with my parents before going to show. I made a reservation in advance and it made the process easier . We were recommended cocktails and I got the special “the Flannel Shirt” . We got 7 dishes for the 3 of us to share. The cheese curds were amazing - unique and lovely. Empanadas are so good - we got the veggie and it was great. The maple pork chop was fantastic - I highly recommend this. The dishes that disappointed were the potato truffles and the Argentinian beef. The beef was very bland and not special. The Moroccan beef was fantastic ! I highly recommend this dish too. Overall La Merenda was great! The prices were very low for the portion sizes and quality. I would recommend two dishes per person to share unless you’re extremely hungry. Can’t wait to come back!"
"The food was great, some tapas blew me away but then others were just alright. Favorites were the Butter Chicken and Argentinian Style Beef (although a lot of potatoes). Sangria is really good, and the cocktails we tried were great as well. Atmosphere threw me off a bit, as the room has some quirks, yet is full of character."
"Menu had a variety of tapas from different countries. Vibes of the restaurant was really nice but the flavour of the dishes were just okay kind of plain. Not sure if I would go back."
