"Date of Visit: 10/11/2018 - We arrived at Maurice’s approximately 4:40PM. We were not greeted upon entering the store, however, we heard sales associates greeting other customers. After a couple minutes, my MIL had three sweaters in her arms that she had intended to purchase. Surprised that a sales associate hadn’t offered to hold onto her sweaters until she had finished shopping, she took the initiative to place the three sweaters, her leather jacket, and the “still shopping” sign on the counter. She continued shopping and located 2-3 more sweaters she wanted; placing them on the counter with her other soon-to-be purchases. At this time, we were shocked that we had yet to be acknowledged or greeted by any sales associates in the store, despite hearing “Can I help you find something” and “Would you like me to show you what I think would look great with that sweater/shirt/jacket/etc” from across the store. We then headed over to the jeans section of the store, but after my MIL viewed a few pieces, decided she had enough jeans at home for now, but needed some new sweaters now that temperatures are dropping. She went back to the counter, and every sweater she had thoughtfully chosen was missing, her “still shopping” sign was gone, and all that remained was her leather jacket. She located a nearby sales associate and ask, “What happened to my items I selected for purchase?” The sales associate replied, “Oh, we thought you left the store! Let me get my manager!” and she speed walks away from her to find her manager. The manager informs her that we can locate the sweaters again, but at that point in time, she'd had enough! We'd been in the store for 30 minutes, not been greeted once, and they put all her items away despite being clearly marked with the “Still shopping” sign. We have NEVER been treated like this in any other clothing store, and quite frankly, I am shocked and disappointed in Maurice’s. Curious to find out if she was being neglected due to the color of her skin, her disability, both - or if it was another reason? WHY weren't we welcomed? UPDATE on 10/17: After MULTIPLE attempts to contact Maurice's, I finally received an e-mail from them apologizing for the inconvenience and stating that they will send me a $10 gift card for our trouble within the next 48 hours. $10 is not nearly an apology enough to rectify the blatant discrimination we experienced at this store; especially considering that our regular Maurice's purchases at $350-plus (multiple times per year)."
