Reviews of Marie's Hideaway
"We stopped there on a Saturday early afternoon. The place was pretty empty at the time. We sat at the bar, and the service was fast and courteous. We ordered a Bloody Mary, BLT, and an Italian Philly sandwich with fries. The BLT toast was not toasted, and the bacon was something other than bacon. It was like chewing on leather that had bacon flavor. I'm originally from Chicago and have spent some time in Philadelphia PA, I like to think I know what a Italian beef and a Philly cheese stake is. Well this sandwich was neither of them. The only Philly side of this sandwich was the cheese and grilled veggies, the only Italian side of this sandwich was the giardiniera peppers. Neither of these sandwichs are traditionally served with pulled roast beef, the beef is supposed to be thinly sliced, and I did see a meat slicer in the kitchen. Bottom line, not a true sandwich and not flavorful. Fries were soggy and the Bloody Mary wasn't drinkable, it was an off flavor for a Bloody."
"Had bunless bacon hamburger. Was delicious as their beef doesn't get frozen & is hand patted. Vickie, our server, was very friendly. Tuesday are burger specials. They have beef sticks for sale (& used in their bloody marys). We bought some to enjoy laterr. Their "shake a day" cup is huge; a person can't win if you don't try! Right? There is also lots of Packer memorabilia on wall & shelves for those that like that stuff. ;-)"
"Stopped for Friday Night Fishfry. It's all-you-can-eat. Ordered fried. Appetizer consists of small bowl of clam chowder, 1 tiny cup of coleslaw, 1 biscuit, 1 pad of butter and a cracker. Chowder was ok, but salty. Biscuit was avg. Ordered softdrinks on tap, they offer free refills. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the night. When fish came it was accompanied by a side of fries, lemon wedge, and tiny cup of coleslaw. Initial offering is 3 pieces of fish. It was visibly over cooked (dark brown), and greasy. How the cook let it come out of the kitchen is beyond belief. Took a couple bites and that was more than enough. Was left with a horrible burnt, greasy aftertaste. Fries, weren't much better. Incredibly greasy. The waitress wasn't the least bit friendly, and wouldn't even say "You're welcome", after we'd say "Thank you." Didn't even ask us why we didn't eat our fish. Clearly didn't care. All in all it was the single worst Fish Fry I've ever had, and possibly the worst dining experience of my life. They also had Halloween decorations out early in August (cobwebs). Will most certainly never be stopping there again, much less referring anyone else there."
"A girlfriend and I stopped in to Marie's for lunch one day on a snowy road trip. As soon as we walked in I know it was a great choice because it smelled wonderful. The menu is extensive and everything coming out of the kitchen looked great. We started off with an order of french fries but were told to only get half because of its size. She was right. We both ordered the lunch sized spaghetti which came with garlic toast. Excellent choice. Not only was the food amazing, but the owner and his staff were as well. Extremely welcoming and had nice conversations with them. I highly recommend this bar/restaurant. I will be back with a group of my motorcycle friends. If you're going through stone lake or on your way to Hayward, make the slight detour and stop at Marie's. You will not be disappointed!"
