"I usually stay near the Marina or Old Town. How we, gave this place a try. First, they did not hold reservation per room type. They state that the Marriott site doesn’t work correctly. Second, horrible location and must valet car. Third, homeless encampment outside on the street(wasn’t going to consider this in the rating since it’s California and all cities here have large camps). Fourth, elevator smells like urine. Fifth, staff are incompetent. Other than that, it’s a 5 star rating."
"The parking lot entrance is literally next to the freeway onramp so trying to get to the hotel between 4-6 PM is a nightmare traffic wise. My room was dimly lit. The restroom sink still has leftover hair shavings from the previous guest which was quite disturbing. The bathtub was pretty slow draining and the hot water in the sink was either cold or scalding hot with no real midpoint. Parking is valet only and costs $50 per night. The street behind the hotel is lined on both sides with homeless encampments. Work paid for the hotel so at least it didnt cost me anything but my comfort level. At least the staff I interacted with were overall pleasant during my stay."
"I wanted to bring to your attention the challenges and traumatic experience I encountered during my recent stay at your hotel Wednesday January 17 2024. As a loyal customer, I have never experienced such issues before. The construction noise next to my room prompted me to call the front desk, hoping to switch rooms. Unfortunately, the staff's response was not only unhelpful but also led to my dinner plans being affected on my birthday.Since I was on a tight schedule I decided to go to the front desk to talk instead of the phone . The manager's offer of points and a room on a different floor did not align with my paid reservation for a rooftop room. Despite expressing my concerns, the manager wanted to make the unilateral decision to cancel my reservation I did not want to go looking for another hotel I had reservations I had to attend to leaving the situation unresolved ultimately agreeing to receive points . I left the front desk to her knocking at my room door ten minutes later from our conversation to say she doesn’t feel comfortable me staying at the hotel . I have never ever had something like this happen . To add to the frustration, when I requested contact information for customer service, the staff provided a number that led back to the front desk. Since I had no room to get ready in I missed my birthday dinner had a traumatic experience with your manger and staff . I would also like my full refund back . Sincerely, Mary"
"We booked a room with a king-sized bed and when we got there they said that they overbooked and there were no more king-sized beds. They said that they were doing first come, first serve. The people before us and the people after us received king-sized beds and the one behind me was just a reservation. They ended up giving us two queen beds, not adjusting the price, and gave us free breakfast. So you can charge me for what I booked, but can't give me what I booked? Two of the people at the front desk were incredibly rude. Parking is also valet only and $50 per car per night."
"It's amazing what people feel like they can get away with. For the number of issues this hotel has, they seem to be really proud of it charging what they do. 50 dollars/night for valet only parking (or you can park on the street next to the tent city), a sliver of a view of the ocean and all the soothing sounds of drag racers on the highway nearby. Every appliance in the room makes a ton of noise too, so don't expect to sleep well. And once you DO finally fall asleep, enjoy the sounds of *intense* construction starting promptly at 8 am, because you'll probably be put adjacent to a room that's getting a massive overhaul. Just about ruined San Diego for me."
