Reviews of Portola Redwoods State Park
"Wow! I mean, one of the most beautiful areas in the Bay Area. I couldn't stop taking pictures of everything. It's definitely more lush during the fall/winter months because of the dense fog that hydrates. The drive was beautiful as well. We got pockets of fog, it would clear up, light rain, and it would repeat. Beautiful sight seeing spots everywhere. ***Parking is $10 CASH. You fill out the paper envelope yourself and drop it in a box, keep the top portion and place on your dash. There are multiple areas to park, but get there early to secure a spot close to the start of your hike. **Be aware of some trail closure due to rain and river bridge closure due to high water flow. It may or may not affect your planned trip. There is a floating bridge off the Sequoia Nature trail that is removed during winter, but we were able to easily get across the water because levels are still low. To be safe, have a paper map OR download the map off AllTrails. Definitely always save an offline map before you head to this area. NO reception or service once you are there. I was there Saturday, Dec 2nd, and we only saw about 4 people throughout the entire loop we did. It was great! ****we enjoyed the Tiptoe Falls all to ourselves. Sat on rocks and enjoyed a light snack before continuing on. We have such beautiful in our backyards."

"Excellent place for camping and going on small trails! Loved the beautiful redwoods, that it's so close to drive to, spacious campsites, excellent restrooms! The Rangers were very friendly and of great help! Loved the 90 min hike to Tiptoe Falls and back. Just spent a night and day. Definitely worth staying the entire weekend next time"

"The camping plot is too short and not really good for having a flat place to have a tent. Otherwise it's a beautiful and peaceful place. Additional parking is a bit difficult. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. The cleaning area is good too. Camp site 50 is a very bad place 51 is good. The BBQ area is ok."

"Beautiful setting amongst the Redwoods! There are river/steams running throughout the park. They do pretty good job of keeping the bathrooms clean. Some decent hikes to occupy some of your time. Lots of ravens and Bluejays. Definitely no not leave any crumbs behind. A solid family style camping experience. You will definitely deal with kids and hearing other folks but getting the right Campsite and alleviate some of those... Things."

"A moderate hike. The drive to the place is serene. The roads are narrow, but is really a great drive. Also, do not forget to get a parking permit you will get ticketed. We went on a hike on the Iverson trail. There was a small creek at the end that was refreshing. Another highlight was the restrooms in this park was super clean."
