Reviews of Arroyo Tapiado Mud Caves
"Easy to drive to nice hiking and great to explore best times are October through May (temperature in late spring to mid fall might be too much)"
"Easy trail street legal only! It is sandy but realitvily hard pack i seem two vans driving back in there even, i was on a dual sport dirtbike. Mud cave goes in a bit and is at this exact spot. There is also a cool slot canyon just further in than this would highly recommend that as well!"
"This is one of the unique places to CA. The caves are separations between sheets of ancient mud or at least that is how it looks there are also small slots canyons that you can explore. A few things to bring. Vehicle 4x4 and high clearance. Yes I have seen many SUV make it here but the park has a lot to offer and if you want to make the most out of it I recommend a good vehicle for exploring as this is a good distance from anywhere. Take hands free flashlights, head or clip on work well. You can use the phone if you don’t have anything else but I keep that one on full charge in case of emergencies. Water and food as there are no services near by. This can be a fun place for kids but this is nature be cautious and respectful to it and you will have loads of fun. There are no signs that tell you where the caves are so finding them is part of the adventure this is my second time here so this time I explored new places. Cell signal is not existent in the canyons. If you have an emergency you can climb up to a hill to get reception in some areas. As always keep it beautiful, don’t write on the walls and take your trash with you."
"A beautiful place to visit. Unlike any other place you'll visit. These caves are known as the largest mud caves in the world. There are many caves to explore. Many are hidden and tucked away. If it's a busy day, you'll see many other explorers parked near a cave. Recommend to go during the fall or spring seasons. Otherwise during the summer it is very hot outside, but cool inside the caves. Great to have a 4WD vehicle or truck, but I've seen cars make their way out here. Very sandy and can be dusty so bring adequate water and head protection."
"Amazing caves and canyons all over this area, some with very narrow entrances and others very easy to traverse. The scenery is amazing! As others mentioned, cell service is nonexistent, and the terrain is quite rugged, so be prepared, have enough water and supplies, and enjoy!"
