Cal Poly Recreation Center
About the Business
The Cal Poly Recreation Center, located at 101-113 Longview Lane in San Luis Obispo, California, is a top destination for fitness, recreation, relaxation, and wellness. This state-of-the-art facility offers everything you need for your workout, leisure activities, or recreational pursuits. For over 25 years, the Recreation Center has been providing students and the campus community with a welcoming space for fitness and recreation.
In 2008, Cal Poly students voted to increase their student fees to allow for the expansion and renovation of the Recreation Center. The facility reopened in 2012 with additional recreational space, following a student referendum for a remodeled facility. The Cal Poly Recreation Center is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants to recreate, relax, and socialize.
Members can enjoy a variety of amenities such as the Leisure Pool, sand volleyball courts, racquetball, basketball, and more. ASI, the organization managing the facility, prioritizes environmentally responsible planning and sustainable projects in all its operations.
Visitors can pay to park at designated areas nearby, or take advantage of free two-hour parking on certain streets. The Recreation Center also offers venue rental options for events, catering to both Cal Poly affiliated groups and non-affiliated organizations.
For more information or to inquire about the Recreation Center's facilities and programming, visitors can contact the ASI Business Office located at the University Union. ASI is a non-profit auxiliary organization of California Polytechnic State University, dedicated to providing quality services and programs for the campus community.

"Watch out! GPS may tell you to drive down this lane, Don't! There's a campus cop waiting at the end out of sight giving anyone a ticket who drives down this lane. I guess it peds only, but there's no signs up. A speed bump. And, drive way entrances. Don't be fooled. He will insist that there are signs saying do not enter (there aren't) and will give you a $240 ticket for not following signs. I asked him about the lack of signs and he said that his solution is to give tickets instead of putting up a sign."
"Best gym in San Luis Obispo and it’s not even close. It’s also somehow the cheapest (for alumni) at 50$/month."
"Nice big venue, but it needs atmospheric lighting and a music set up, a larger washing area for clean up as well."
"I work out here and every time I get impressed at how expansive and comprehensive this facility is. It truly is a one stop shop. If you're an early riser, their early hours and shower facilities will let you start your day right. If you're an evening punching bag session sort of person, the pool is a great place to take a quick dip to relax. Everything from deadlift to laps in the pool available almost any time of day. Coming from a background of no gym membership, I truly think this place leaves you wanting for nothing. All the equipment you'd ever need is ready, are you?"
"This gym is one of the best I've seen. Not only is the outside design beautiful but the inside is modern, clean, and spacious. The rec center has everything from Olympic weight lifting platforms to racquetball courts to yoga studios to a pool to beach volleyball to an indoor track to beautiful basketball courts. You get a great view on cardio machines (treadmills, stairmaster), so you won't be as bored. When I visited, it wasn't empty nor was it overcrowded. There is a general positive vibe there"
