"This unassuming spot is an absolute gem. Incredibly friendly service. Unique menu. The ambiance is very fun. The waffle fries were some of the best I’ve ever had. Excellent tonkatsu with a luscious curry. The beef stew was fantastic as well. The beverage menu is well curated with some beers & sakes that you won’t find many other places."
"Probably the best curry we have had in LA! I had this place tagged on Google maps ever since we got back from Japan and had been craving some Japanese curry. Finally made it there last weekend on Superbowl evening when the place was practically empty. The vibe of this restaurant is nice. Lots of anime figures all over the wall. And the place looks slightly upscale especially for a curry place. We got the chicken katsu kare and the chubby curry. Both were amazing - the wagyu in the chubby curry was so soft and the chicken katsu was perfectly done. We also got a kids butter udon which honestly tasted so good that we wanted to eat it all. Seriously good food. Have to go back to try the chef specialities."
"It was fine. And yes I know that Japanese curry (which I prefer) can be sweeter than Indian or Thai and the flavor was buttery and silky smooth but the food didn't wow me. I wish there was more grit to it, texturally and taste wise if that makes sense. The nice hostess asked us if we had (not because we didn't like it) so I said how about some togarashi (Japanese pepper) at the table but she explained that the chefs didn't want to change the integrity of their food. We also had the wagyu burger which was solid."
"Solid Japanese curry restaurant. The interior is well thought out and inviting. The wait person was so nice and accommodating. They asked how our meal was and before we left if they could do anything better. Very interested in our feedback and suggestions. We really enjoyed the food and we plan to visit again soon. Highly recommended. Meter parking, can be challenging on Beverly Ave at key times."
"The TL;DR is Chubby Curry a good place to visit for lunch and/or dinner. In terms of the Los Angeles area, this is currently the only curry restaurant I know to use dark cocoa as an ingredient in their curry. I have to type this paragraph first so people do not get the wrong interpretation about why I'm giving 4 stars overall instead of 5. My 4 star rating is equivalent to a 5 star rating because I know what I want from Japanese curry.I leave the 5th star for other stuff that goes beyond the eating the food. I have experience with Japanese curry and cooking it with my own spin on the recipe which influences my rating. Chubby Curry is a new curry restaurant in Los Angeles specializing in Japanese curry. I ordered a Chubby Curry and Chicken Cutlet during my visit. For the Chubby Curry, the curry comes in a small cast iron dish. The bigger bowl has the rice, pickled ginger and charred broccoli. I type this review as I eat my to-go order at home I bought on 12/22 as part of first visit dining in and along with the curry from Tokyo Central made to-go as a comparison. Unlike the sweet curry from Tokyo Central. The cocoa in the Chubby Curry dish gives the curry a more complex flavor working well with the mild spicy hints of the Chubby Curry. I will say this is a place to go eat lunch and/or dinner."
