About the Business
The Coronado Butterfly Preserve, managed by The Land Trust for Santa Barbara County, is a beautiful 9.3-acre park located on Coronado Drive in Goleta, California. This preserve is a haven for native coastal sage scrub habitat, eucalyptus groves, and a variety of birds and wildlife. Visitors can explore woodlands, meadows, and Devereux Creek, as well as enjoy trails, an outdoor gathering area, and a classroom for educational purposes.
The Preserve serves as a gateway to other protected coastal areas nearby, including the Goleta Monarch Grove and Ellwood Shores coastal bluffs. It is also adjacent to the largest Monarch butterfly over-wintering groves in California, attracting up to 1,000 visitors per weekend during butterfly season.
Acquired by The Land Trust in 1998, the Coronado Butterfly Preserve is now a permanently protected open space thanks to public and private grants, as well as community donations. The preserve is managed by an advisory committee and offers opportunities for wildlife habitat preservation, outdoor education, and access to the coastal trail system.
By supporting The Land Trust, visitors can contribute to the conservation of the natural beauty and biodiversity of Santa Barbara County. Whether you come to enjoy the iconic views, locally grown food, or thriving wildlife habitat, the Coronado Butterfly Preserve is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

"Forest of eucalyptus trees. In cold weather the butterflies clump in the trees for warmth. No clumps today as it was 60F. Lots of butterflies and shade along the creek. Free parking along the street."
"Wow, what a beautiful, breathtaking place. You can literally spend hours here. It's perfect for kids and dogs. We did miles of walking on the oceanside trails and then went into the forest area to see the monarch butterfly nesting areas. There's a designated area to go sit and observe. Such an awesome place to visit. Street parking but plenty."
"Wanted to see the butterflies. But we got there too late in the day. They were all clumped together, hanging from the trees."
