Reviews of Vanderbilt Orthopaedics
"Disappointed with their lack of service. I've heard concerning things regarding Vanderbilt ethics but was willing to give them a try anyway. I was hopeful to work with them as I am wanting to get in great health and they had good reviews. They would not take my insurance and dismissed the idea of accepting out of pocket payment. My brief experience with them did not help change what I had heard."
"I had an amazing first visit to this practice. Everyone I encountered was kind, professional and efficient. In one visit, I got X-rays, met the surgeon, got my procedure and post-operative visits scheduled, prescription filled and lab work completed. I couldn’t be more satisfied."
"The staff was cordial enough and had good soft skills. The office was clean, and large enough for people with varying disabilities. I even heard an office worker ask for help when a patient needed assistance getting to the back. Unfortunately, good qualities didn't extend much past the lobby door. The doctor, while charismatic and kind, very obviously did not read my patient history. I know my referring doctor had sent detailed notes about my case because no other practice had been listening to me. The new doctor immediately suggested a possible diagnosis that insinuated he did not read about my issues and prior diagnosis, so I explained some of the treatment I'd received and their conclusions. He then went on to explain a few treatments, four out of five I'd already done. (Otherwise, I wouldn't be driving three hours in pain doing something that triggers the pain to be worse because my local options do not advocate for me.) Overall, he spent less than five minutes in the room with me. I don't think he checked his computer once. While it's understandable that the patient must repeat themselves with some things, it was immensely frustrating to see a doctor that knew zero about my patient history. He referred me to another doctor within the practice, (a surgeon) for which I was glad and hope will be a better experience. The back staff did not seem to communicate with the front staff; I was pointed towards the checkout desk from a distance. The employee that checked me out stated that I could make an appointment to come back if I had any more issues, suggesting that she didn't have my information pulled up for the referral or that the back end hadn't communicated it. I told her I had a referral and the situation was taken care of. In conclusion, while it is a patient's responsibility to relay information on their situation, there is also a doctor and staff responsibility to have prior understanding of the patient they are treating. There are usually resources in a portal available to doctors that show prior exams, diagnosis, treatment, etc., but with the way this appointment went, I'm not sure if they actually had such resources."
"I was thinking this morning about how it has been a year since my husband had surgery at Vanderbilt. I can’t say enough how thankful I am for Dr. Schwartz and everyone else involved. We were referred to Dr. Schwartz by another doctor in Paducah after my husband injured his arm. We were so anxious during this time because there were unknowns about the issue and it was scary, but Dr. Schwartz and the group at Vanderbilt explained everything and really did make me feel more at ease. He was kind and helpful before, during, and after the surgery. A year later, my husband has full motion in his arm, he has been able to work in the yard and start a garden, and we have been able continue on with our lives after all this stress. I truly have Dr. Schwartz and his team to thank for his quality of life now and for making that stressful time as good as it could be. All the employees we came into contact with in the orthopedics office were always friendly and helpful as well."
"I had a pathological fracture back in June and one can only imagine the degree of anxiety and fear that comes along with news of a 9 cm hole in your humorous bone. Dr Herbert Schwartz was my doctor and surgeon. Upon arrival he relieved my my anxiety by telling me the truth about the procedure and what i could expect after and during the surgery. The surgery went well and today i am healing with full motion back in my arm. I still have a long way to go as far as being able to put weight on the arm or do what i did before the surgery but i am better every day. Dr. Schwartz and the entire Vanderbilt team of doctors and nurses have been amazing and are always helpful. Dr Schwartz is the only doctor that has ever called me on the phone to let me know test results. They also kept my wife up to date while i was in surgery."
