"All the food was delicious, quick service too. Downside -1 is the food was very oily, and they don't offer any options for pescatarian. I couldn't eat meat on the day, and had to go for all the vegetarian tofu items since they didn't offer any fish items. 1. Fang's Steamed Buns - Tofu & Chicken - both good! I had the tofu and liked it. People on the table loved the chicken. 2. Vegetable Wontons tossed w/ Eggplant in Garlic Sauce - nice wontons, and the eggplant was lovely! Definitely had a lot of those eggplant plain with that garlic sauce. 3. Panfried Veggie Wontons, served with sesame chili sauce - I didn't try this, but the person next to me did. Crispy and they looked good! 4. Chili potato green bean- OMG SO GOOD! I'm not usually a fan of green beans, but this was delicious! Good amount of spice, perfect with the caramelized onions, and the potato was superior! 5. Tofu in Black Bean Sauce w/ brocolli - Probably my favorite of everything!! That black bean sauce with th broccoli - SO FREAKING GOOD! I could have this on-repeat! Tofu was not even needed, haha Downside was that thwre was a lot of oil on here :( 6. Crispy Honey Tofu in Sweet Mayo Sauce, bok choy - Tofu was nice and flavorful and went well with the sauce. Love that they had so many veggies too. Sauce was nice as well. 7. Sesame Chicken with sweet potato - The chicken was crispy and coated in a sweet soy glaze, but barely any chicken. I didn't like this. The Sweet potato though? This was amazing! I'd ask for the sweet potato plain! 8. Sauteed Ginger Chicken, soy, garlic, chili and zucchini - Really good and healthy lean protein source! Looks like it was chicken breast with I definitely appreciate! Big chunks of chicken too, and didn't look like it was too oily either. 9. Fang's Crispy Honey Chili Shortribs with bok choy- Husband loved this! I only tried it the next day as leftovers but the beef was still very flavorful. He said it was very extremely delicious and melt-in-your-mouth soft when fresh. 10. Sesame balls with chocolate filling - They brought this for dessert and I think it was a little too much. Too much food at the end of it all and these didn't taste anything special. There was a chocolate filling inside but the coating around. It was so thick that the chocolate didn't come through as much."
"A uniquely different take on Chinese cuisine, a nice downtown option for the adventurous. Wor Wonton Soup served slightly spicy, in a cream broth, with sizzling rice and a heaping portion of shellfish. While digressing from the classically traditional, Chef-owner Fang comes table side to help guide first time diners. A suggested entree included a combination of walnut shrimp with fried broccoli and beef, tasty, but a bit heavy on salt. Overall, a good option when in the mood for something new and novel."
"We went there for lunar new year's eve dinner while traveling in San Fran. Not being locals, we didn't know the owner and his daughter are famous here until reading the posts on the wall by our table. Anyhow, summary of our experience: - very interesting menu with a nice variety, including vegetarian, and new twist to the traditional Chinese dishes - extremely rude and poor service from the staff and the owner - the dishes we ordered were just way too salty despite flavorful - you will smell like Chinese food afterwards if you sit downstairs There are so many nice options on the menu that it took us some time to make up our mind. Every dish was presented nicely and looked appetizing. We loved hot and sour soup. But the rest of the dishes we ordered, steamed whitefish, black bean tofu, onion cake, and vegetable chow mein, although tasty, were just way too salty that we couldn't really finish the plates. The dishes at the tables around us all looked great as well and the diners appeared to love their food. The service was the major letdown here. Many people complained about rude service here and we did experience the same as well. The owner came to take our order shortly after we sat down. We told him we needed more time. Then he never came back and we had to request twice for him to come back. He was actually the one standing at the door when we entered the restaurant. At first we thought he was a customer because he didn't say a word but stared at us. Only after a minute or so, he then asked how many of us and took us to our table. No greetings, no smile, no proper interaction with us at all. The rest of the staff just appeared rushed and stressed all the time. Other than bringing food and drinks to the table, it took quite an effort to get their attention. They didn't carry out any proper conversation with customers at all and I don't believe it was due to language barriers. Maybe it's because we were tucked into a corner of the restaurant outside the restroom. But the experience from the staff and the owner was just so unpleasant and felt like we were not welcomed. The open kitchen is right by the dining room on the first/ground floor. You and your clothes are guaranteed to smell like Chinese food afterwards. Maybe it's fine for others. It's a big no for me. Nevertheless, the restaurant was packed. I'm sure it's a local favorite. But it wouldn't be somewhere I will go to when I return to visit San Fran for a visit."
"We went to Fang on a Friday afternoon for lunch. The chef, Peter, hooked us up with a variety of his choices after we told him about any dietary restrictions. He picked some amazing dishes. Mainly pescatarian. Loved the seafood soup, shrimp, fish, fried rice. They also have a full bar. The only thing that I didn’t like was the service was super fast. They were clearing our dishes before we were finished. They do close at 2pm but still wasn’t great to feel rushed. Otherwise I recommend and will go back soon."
"Pros: Met Chef Peter Fang & he ask that I trust him to recommend our appetizers and dinner & ohhh myyy he did not disappoint…. We ate such delicious foods Peking Pork Spare Ribs, Porkbuns, Shrimp Dumplings & more…. So tender the meat was falling from the bones & flavors galore!! Thanks Peter for a great experience, food, and celebration for my brothers birthday & our first visit. Cons: I had to ask to be re-seated as I was initially placed near the bathroom after noting on my reservation & upon arrival that this was my first visit and my brothers birthday; this was a miss on the hostess part for seating."
