"Overall happy with the project for our new roof. This was the best price of the 3 bids we got. The initial service was very good. I saw samples and could touch and feel the roof shingles before making a decision. Other companies just sent an email with photos. Our house is in San Anselmo and permitting seems to be problematic for contractors - and Sutter dealt with the town’s objections well. The dormers were not sealed properly on the first attempt as there were some unfinished wood boards hammered into to the roof and caulking around the dormers. The code required flashing to be inserted into stucco. Wood would swell and caulk on a roof will not survive the outdoor rain . So Sutter came out and was able to get the dormers to code. We passed the town inspection! One tip- be sure to ask roofers to clean your attic after installing a new roof as debris from the project will pile up on your attic. Right after the roof was installed we had a small leak, but it was by the dormer and I was told to close the window better which I did. The next big rain came and water leaked into the bathroom walls. When I went to inspect the attic, we had a leak right in that same area near that window. What impressed me most about Sutter’s service was their immediate response to my call for help. The next morning, the crew showed up and made the repair. While it wasn’t quite a 5-star experience, it was certainly a 4 star or even a 4.5 star overall. My other advice is to shell out the extra $3k or so to get new gutters. I decided to keep mine until painting the exterior of my house, but the gutters are the main thing you see when getting a new roof- the roof is only visible from a drone!
