"Drove 9 miles on the freeway to get here because unlike other places that serve Caldo, this place was rated higher at 4.5 stars. The reason I made a trip here is because my mom wanted me to buy Caldo de Res for my sick brother. The website say open, my map says open until 6pm, and google says open until 5 pm. Got here at 4:20pm, and the door says open and you can hear the employees chattering from the inside, yet the door is locked with the keys still hanging from the inside. I found it odd that it says open, that I could hear people chattering, and that the keys were on the inside of the door… I thought to myself that maybe they were on a brief break and that maybe they would open soon. I called the store to confirm if they were either opened or closed, but after the call rung a few times, they sent my call straight to voicemail. You could still hear the employees chattering in the inside of the locked parking lot. After a while, one employee came out and saw me standing right outside the door that said “open”. All he did was tug on the door to make sure it was locked, and then walked past me and ignored me. He resumed to walk straight inside the mini market in the corner of the street across them. There was no acknowledgment if they were on break, whether they were closed or open, or if they would return soon and reopen, or were closing early for the rest of the day. The sign still was turned over to say open, the employees did not flip the sign over, yet the employees here would rather ignore your calls and ignore you standing outside rather than acknowledge whether they are, or they are not, still open. It literally only takes a second to confirm if you are opened or closed, especially after you’ve taken notice of someone standing outside confused but rather than acknowledge them you choose to walk past as if they’re not even there. There is no need to be so dubious. Terrible customer service. I never even got to have the experience to walk inside and check out the tortilleria, or try the food, because the customer service here was basically non existent upon my first visit. Why even have store hours if you don’t plan on respecting them? At least tell the customer that you’ll be back in 20 minutes or more, or say you’re closing early since you decided to walk out on the job 40 minutes before the store closed. Never returning here again, and it’s not the distance I traveled that turns me off, it’s more so the terrible customer service that followed…. not to mention the parking is non existent since their parking lot was not open to the public and I had a hard time finding where to park my car. I had to stop in front of an abandoned/locked driveway with my emergency lights turned on, and risk getting ticketed, just to find out they were closed."
"Love this place talking about oldies but goodies and the tortillas and masa the best in East Los Angeles"
"Even though I moved out from the area, this tortilleria has a special place in my heart. It brings out good memories from my childhood, that is why I keep on going back If you want to see how tortillas are made, he does not have state of the art equipment, but it does its job. The tortillas have an authentic taste."
"Best freakin tortillas I've ever had that were not hand made on the spot!!! Just my luck Ysidro decided to stay late that day and I had the good fortune of picking me up an order! I've introduced these tortillas to some of my friends.....well now I'm the delivery service of tortillas for my friends and family!!"
"IMHO, the best corn tortillas in Los Angeles. Just 3 ingredients, but what a difference. Get them while they're hot!!"
