"They not organize at all they trifling roaches in the room they don’t teach they don’t have no teachers it’s just all bad there n they do they lil petty one on me just made me bounce harder."
"I just spoke with someone claiming to be the director of the center. He was rude and disrespectful. Repeated the same information over and over again even after I told him I heard him the first time. If he's the director then this center is in trouble."
"Hello, my name is Jocelyn…I’m currently a student at Dr. Benjamin L. Hooks Job Corps Center. I just want to speak out on my experience at this job corps center hoping I can save some one else the energy that I’ve been drained out of…. Since I’ve arrived on center I’ve been antagonized & provoked by staff members getting cussed at & stuff held over my head like my high school diploma & driver license. Since I’ve gotten here I’ve asked multiple times to be transferred back to where I was from because I wasn’t supposed to come to this center from the start…. Ive been here almost if not 3 months already and they still will not put in a transfer for me, trying to make excuses on why they can’t or don’t want to. There is a lot going on in this center that no one knows about or they just don’t care about…. Like the staff giving out THC pens, vapes, blacks, etc….or having romantic relationships with students that attend here…. Or like the staff being under the influence. PLEASE DON’T COME TO THIS ONE THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT YOU, they ain’t with you they are against you I even have stuff on recording. The center is nasty mold in the rooms there’s been times where I had to take a freezing cold shower… if you so happen to end up here my best advice is to RECORD everything…. But try not to come here."
"Disgusting horrible place, staff is extremely disrespectful and treats everyone like children. Awful mold and mildew growing in bathroom ceiling and no one cares about student health. Do not send your children here and if your over 18 do not come here by choice."
"People tend to get here 7 to 14 days after their second interview. But know that the situation here has some omission. When you get here you'll spend a month not in your trade, you'll then take two tests that are designed for you to fail. If you do faile you'll do 60 hours of basic reading and math until you do pass. No trade training though. Or very little at best. I thought I was out of the woods when I passed on the first try, but then there's the living conditions. Mold on the vents, consistently cold in the dorm even in January (on account of their wallets I'm sure) and a flu outbreak where it took my seven days to get any help even with a fever. And I'm a lucky one. There's a reason they can't meet their quotas, however I graduate in about a month, and I'll be leaving with all I came for and more, with a free trip back home. So it CAN work for you. Just be informed about the situation, and expect politics and diversions on the way. Strongly recommend Florida centers though."
