"This place still haunts me still after 20years. After having trauma my parents were sold on a dream that this place would really help me. Instead caused more harm than any good. When refusing to talk about my past. They locked me up in a room wearing scrubs for months at a time. After the second time being locked up on TRS shutdown(Therapeutic restrictive status). I decided the only way i was gonna leave there was in a box. I attempted to unalive myself. I would never recommend anyone to send their kid there. It took years of heavy counseling to unravel the harm done to me there. DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS THERE!!"

"I’ll start with the only positive-BP and the other Sturgis House staff members truly care for these kids. If I were rating them alone, I’d give them a 5-star review. This place as a treatment center, however, doesn’t even deserve the one star I’m required to give. My nephew was here for six months before we were told he was being discharged. In the beginning his therapist assured me that they’re familiar with kids not opening up until about six months in so they have time to develop a relationship with their therapist. That’s fine… but four months in they said he wasn’t opening up and they were discharging him in two months. His therapist called off family counseling sessions for WEEKS in a row because of a completely unrelated court hearing coming up. She said there was no point in family therapy until the judge decided who was going to take my nephew… but the court hearing was related to criminal charges not custody and she knew that. They never attempted to have my nephew work with a different therapist. The therapist very rarely responded to my emails despite there being discussion of his discharge being to me rather than the family member he’d lived with prior. She was besties with my nephews biological mother because bio mom lives in Little Rock and visited twice a month or so… but didn’t feel his bio mother needed to be in family counseling because bio mom refuses to change her living situation to accommodate her own child. My nephews guardian felt bio mom shouldn’t be involved in his treatment if she wasn’t going to make changes to take custody back. The therapist didn’t seem to think that bio mom having a new baby or taking her step-son in but refusing my nephew had anything to do with his attachment issues or behaviors. This place is a joke. The administration, therapist assigned to my nephew, AND her supervisor left much to be desired. One month after his discharge and my nephew is back to his abusive behavior towards his 68 year old guardian. His teachers had nothing but negative reports regarding his participation with school… so his last two weeks there he didn’t even have to go! If you really want your child to get some help-avoid this place because it’ll just cause setbacks!"

"I have been an employee for Youth Home a little over 2 years. I have seen some incredible progress through some clients and truly believe they learned a lot about them selves and how to react to peers. It can be a scary place at first and we are constantly trying our best to improve especially in admissions. The direct care staff may have less experience with being trauma informed but we are always training and learning. I believe in this mission and I hope to be the PREMIER facility we all dream to be."

"If you're reading this, you're very likely a parent making a very hard decision or a teen whos embarking on a scary path. As a parent who had to make this decision, I can confidently say, its the best thing I've ever done for my son. The admissions process was very intimidating and emotional, but the whole staff at YH was so supportive. I applied to 3 different places for my son and this was the only place I felt comfortable and supported. It helped that my son was in a place where he knew he needed help and went willingly, but I can't thank YH enough for the support and love they surrounded him with. If you're considering this for your child, I strongly recommend it. If you think your child is struggling, odds are you only know a small fraction of how deep they really are. I made the hard choice to send my son and we'll both forever be grateful to have welcomed home an entirely new kid with a new lease on life. Thank you Youth Home!!"
