About the Business
The University of Memphis Herbarium is a natural history collection located at 3774 Walker Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. With nearly 20,000 plant specimens from around the world, the herbarium focuses on vascular plants from the Southeastern US, particularly Tennessee and Kentucky. Revived in 2014 after being orphaned for over 30 years, the herbarium is actively accessioning new specimens and conducting research on the plant life of West Tennessee and the Lower Mississippi River Basin.
As a museum and tourist attraction, the University of Memphis Herbarium welcomes visitors to explore its collection on the second floor of Ellington Hall, room 216. To arrange a visit, simply send a request to herbarium@memphis.edu. The institution is committed to expanding knowledge of regional plant life through the collection, preservation, and study of botanical specimens, making its assets available for research, teaching, and community services.
