The Department of Biological Sciences, located at 3774 Walker Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee, is a school dedicated to research, education, and service in the field of biology. Our department offers a Graduate Program and Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) where students work in groups to quantify genetic effects in a wild population of butterflies. We provide hands-on lab experience to develop technical skills, troubleshoot experimental designs, and problem-solve.

Our diverse community includes undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty and staff with interests ranging from stem cells to systematics. We focus on five major areas: Biology Education Research; Cellular & Molecular Biology; Ecology, Evolution, & Conservation Biology; Genetics, Genomics, & Bioinformatics; and Physiology & Behavior. Our research programs are interdisciplinary and conducted in various centers within the department.
