Reviews of Costco hearing aid store
"My husband got his hearing aids through Costco and they are super kind and helpful. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a hearing test and possibly some very good hearing aids."
"I went to an Ear, Nose & Throat doctor’s office complaining of tinnitus. They found no surgical solution and prescribed hearing aids. That was not what I wanted to hear. The audiologist tested my hearing and spent an inordinate amount of time telling me that they were better than Costco. So I went to Costco. Costco went through their routine iterating that they only carried the best class of the 4 classes of hearing aids. I’m still not clear what that means. No one else in the industry seems to realize or mention there are 4 distinct classes of hearing aids. Anyway they tested my hearing and suggested Rexton hearing aids. Rexton is a “Made For IPhone” or connects with MFI protocol and I use an iPhone. They were $1600, cheap enough so I bought them. The Rexton worked well enough to meet the criteria of hearing in the car, hearing in Cracker Barrel and other challenging places if you are willing to tweak the aids from the app. The connection for phone calls was not loud enough to be usable in my service vehicle and streaming music had that issue and produced sound similar to a transistor radio circa 1960’s. The perception of the Costco audiologist seemed to be that the MFI connection to Apple devices was limited to one device at a time requiring un-pairing to change. Subsequently I found that information incorrect. I made appointments trying to address the issues. They tried to increase the volume which was attempted by increasing the the mid and upper levels of frequencies which transitioned the sound to louder noise but didn’t help in understanding phone conversations. Each tweak or alteration to the hearing aid settings requiring a Costco audiologist took 2 to 3 weeks which was plenty of time to let frustration build between appointments. The audiologist were pleasant enough. The support staff were a little on the impatient side, appeared to be overworked and a tad self-important but considering the volume of patients I guess it’s understandable. After attempting to contact Rexton audiologist phone support in my last visit unsuccessfully the Costco audiologist gave up and agreed the Rexton brand aid was not going to work for me. If I had wanted to try one of the other two brands and use the Rexton aids until the new aids came in, I could buy the new set and then return the Rexton aids. Remembering ever little change takes 2 to 3 weeks I elected to return them. In researching hearing aids that would meet my needs I discovered ZipHearing. Without going into detail of there business model they are a solution to consider if you are not using insurance and Costco hearing aid department just doesn’t suit your needs."
"Several online reviews of Costco hearing centers have praised the products but complained about the service. My experience has been the opposite. My Kirkland 10 hearing aids, though much better than my previous brand, have had some problems. Maybe that's why Costco has quit selling them. But service at the Farragut hearing center has been excellent. I once had to wait longer than I liked, but the problem was a miscommunication between staff members, something that could happen anywhere. Once the staff realized I had been waiting, they went to great lengths to apologize and get me on my way. I've been to the hearing center for testing, adjustments, supplies, and cleanings--at least a dozen times all told. I've dealt with more than half a dozen staff members. Not one has been anything other than polite, efficient, and knowledgeable. Their helpfulness has made the ordeal of getting and maintaining hearing aids as pleasant as it could possibly be."
"My 92 year old Father, who has severe hearing loss, got hearing aids at Costco. LeeAnn was so kind and patient with him through all of his appointments. She had him come back several times to make sure they were working correctly and he was getting the most benefit from them. Thanks for being so nice to him."
"While the value may be good, the service is terrible. I have been going to them for 9-10 years. The service has significantly dropped over that time. Since 2020 customer service is non existent. You have to wait months to actually get a new hearing aid. There will be multiple appointments that will be set up then cancelled or delayed by them. Sometimes within minutes of the appointment time. The time (and attention) to programming has declined even by the more senior specialists. If you can afford it, go elsewhere."
