"A bit of background: my wife and I were newlyweds (about 15 months in) when we went to see Dr Hill. We have always had really good communication and weren't experiencing any problems in our relationship, but because of a very short engagement (due to greencard complexities), we didn't have time to do pre-marital counseling before getting married. Our exclusive reason for looking for a counselor was to do "post"-marital counseling.... really just to make sure there weren't any cracks in the foundation that hadn't revealed themselves yet. We really liked Dr Hill personally, but in the end he wasn't the right fit for us. He has developed a 'Connection Codes' system which has been really transformative for a lot of people (see his website). However, my wife and I felt a bit 'funneled' into the Connection Codes system, which seemed to be more of a 'let's start from scratch' approach to being in relationships. Ultimately, my wife and I feel very confident in our (and each other's) inter-personal skills and emotional IQ; we were looking for someone to guide a few conversations, not a Relationships 101 class.
