Reviews of CTI Professional Flight Training
"I am a HUGE fan of this place even though I discovered them accidentally. My husband and I live in Arkansas and needed to take our private pilot written exam. We originally scheduled with a different flight school downtown...which turned out to be a disaster. We took off work, drove an hour, and were only minutes from the downtown test center when they called us to tell us the owner/proctor needed to reschedule. Long story short, he chose to fly someone to the Gulf rather than proctor our exam. We called CTI to see if they could work us in at the last minute and they were AWESOME. They got us in immediately. The facility is amazing and the proctor was kind and professional. GREAT place and GREAT staff. AND we both passed our tests, just in case you were wondering."
"I moved to Millington, TN from Delaware to train at CTI. I was told one thing and showed up to train for instrument through MEI and experienced something completely different. The 5 days a week and 8 month time period became 2-3 days a week and 18 month period. The staff and students are amazing, but they have too many contracts and not enough instructors (a problem everywhere). I decided to withdraw from the program and look for something that better fit my needs. The school refunded my loan in it's entirety and took care of my housing for the month I was there as well as the lessons I did end up having, books, and fees. The facility looks brand new and the Diamond aircraft are really nice - however, I do wish I knew that the DA-20s here are not approved for IMC so all instrument training is done with foggles. Although I was disappointed with my experience here, they made the situation right. I would recommend CTI to someone who wants quality training (although a lot is self-taught), but not someone with a timeline they want to stick to."
"This is such a Class A facility. We came in a small Cessna 150 to stop for the evening, and immediately were greeted at the airplane. We had a top off of only 15 gallons of fuel and some oil, and we were treated like royalty. Huge space to sit in, great 100LL prices, and extremely friendly staff including one instructor who I had a very nice conversation with about MEI stuff. They also gave us the use of the crew car and a great deal on Hampton Inn rooms for $99 per night. We come back the next day, attempt to leave, and find out that our alternator has stopped working. The local A&P, Matt, agreed to troubleshoot the problem even though he admits to not being fully understanding of the 150 electrical system. We won't have the new alternator for another 2 to 3 days, but we were told it would be no problem to leave the airplane on the ramp and that they would even put it in the hangar if bad weather was on the way. I can't say enough good things about CTI as an outstanding FBO. As a school I'm sure their brand new fleet of airplanes and friendly and knowledgeable instructors follow the outstanding protocol of service that I've seen so far. When I'm near Memphis again, I will make it a point to come back to Millington and buy hundreds of gallons of 100LL for our 340 or 421 and maybe get some DA42 time. I love this place!!"
"I just want to note that this is a review about CTI PFT located at the FXE airport. I cannot recommend this school to anyone. Made what was a dream become a miserable reality. School Changed Ownership The school changed ownership without notification. Upon my arrival, I was advised that the aircraft and training I intended to pursue was no longer available. Ideally I wanted my instrument training on Analog equipment. Was informed of this after I was enrolled and already in the country on my Visa. Student Housing (Conflict of Interest) School student housing is privately owned by an office administrator, the person you contact to make payments, get your visa and find housing. The student houses along with various private condos are hers that she tries to get you to rent. I was told I would have something available by her upon my arrival, i asked for photos and further details which never arrived. I am sad to think they expected me to just arrive and then have no other option. Found an alternate on my own. Flight Simulator The school advertises a flight simulator as part of the training and experience. In my time at the school, the simulator failed to function. In further disclosure which only came about after I called out about it, we were told that the simulator was not even FAA approved for sometime. They insisted the ground training for the non functional simulator be completed. They stated that I could skip the ground training but would need to do the equivalent with one of my personal instructors at a higher cost. Training designed for a simulator without actual hands on experience of the simulator is one of the most absurd notions. Instructor Issues My first instructor had various issues with myself and other students I was actually forewarned by other students. It became very personal in situations that did not even need to be. I also found that I was given extremely low priority by this instructor and was extremely happy to have switched to other instructors for other segments of my training. Be sure to speak to other students in the school and choose who you wish to be your instructor. It can save you time, misery and a lot of money. Relocation of the School At my time of attendance, the school had to relocate. The location was not as good as the first one for many reasons. My main complaint at this time however was the fact that they re-opened the school without it being finished and thereby safe/healthy for students to attend. Transparency In advent of a single person being in charge of housing, visas and payments, the lack of transparency and fair treatment to the students is outright. Especially as an International Student, you are made to feel as though at times they can do as they please without a fair fight by the student. A basic thing such as the kit they sell to you as a student has no transparency. You would ideally believe that you would be given a list of what you are being supplied and sign that when you receive it. Instead, kits are missing items and when you question it, it's word of mouth that it was received by the student. I was missing several items, thankfully I did not have to pay for them albeit i was made to feel as though I lost it. A friend of mine is currently being charged additionally for items that she did not receive. She was told that she was sold the cheaper of two kits (Did not even know there were options as such) albeit she paid the same price that I paid for the same kit. There are many dishonest and unjust aspects of this school. A lot of personal instead of professional situations that students have to deal with. I finished my training there, only because moving to another school would have cost me more than I could afford. I have friends who left and those who want to leave. Do not attend this school, they do not have your best interests at heart. My review will hopefully help students to avoid these problems. If you are attending this school and have issues, please contact the SEVIS program and let them know what you have dealt with."
"One word: Awesome! Scheduling was a breeze, the pre-flight process was kind of long but necessary. The flight was smooth and exciting. I took an one hour flight and I also flew the plane!!! New, clean facility, very spacious and very nice. It also has a place where family and friends can watch the take off and landing. Overall, wonderful experience! Can't wait to do it again!"
