Reviews of Obstetrics and Gynecology at MMC
"Dr. April Whitfield was very nice and quick with my annual check up for my first visit here at MMC! Nautica was also very nice as well when doing my paperwork before I saw Dr. Whitfield. I am glad my appt didn’t take more than an hour compared to the wait time I’m used to that other gynecologist offices. I thoroughly enjoyed my appointment here and look forward to coming back to MMC Gynecology Office!"
"I’ve been a patient of Dr. Christman for almost 2 years now. Although I’ve never had issues with her personally, the experiences I have had at MMC have not been pleasant. I went in with a list of hormonal symptoms I was having and was recommended by another Dr (I couldn’t see Dr Christman because she was delivering) to do a full hormone blood panel and a ultrasound to rule out PCOS. They kept asking me if I had problems with infertility, which I had in the past, but kept telling them the main issues were symptoms I was experiencing on a day to day basis. They did the blood work and ultrasound and said everything looked normal and tried to prescribe me several medications after I had expressed I did not want medication. Why would they prescribe medication when there is no diagnosis? They told me I was “normal” and sent me on my way. I was told the symptoms I was experiencing were just part of being woman and I should just take the medications they were prescribing. Even though some of these symptoms started recently? Several weeks later I received a very large bill in the mail and when I called my insurance I was told it was because they coded my visit as a “infertility visit”. I was NOT there for infertility…. I’m thankful now because I have found a new doctor that listens and gives me the care I deserve."
"The treatment I received from their front desk staff and their office manager was so bad I cancelled my kids appointments at MMC pediatrics because I’m not giving my money to any part of MMC after this experience! I called to make an appointment and the first receptionist was rude and sounded as if I was inconveniencing her by even calling. I asked if they were accepting new patients and she told me depends on the insurance and then the call was just dead air, I had to carry the conversation and ask the questions she should have been asking me! Both her and the second receptionist I spoke with assumed my blue cross blue shield insurance was Medicaid, which it is definitely not, so training for all front desk staff would be beneficial. The second receptionist asked my insurance provider I said blue cross blue shield she said they don’t accept Medicaid to which I said it was not Medicaid and she hung up on me. The first receptionist then twisted the conversation to the office manager so the office manager called me the next day to tell me no one at their practice could see me as a patient due to my interaction with the front desk staff! I’m sorry you have hired low grade uneducated front desk staff, but I should not have to educate them on insurance nor customer service! Honestly by the reviews they probably did me a huge favor! My last pregnancy was cared for in Texas at an office that did not accept Medicaid and I was treated the best I’ve ever been treated as a patient, they understood and valued the fact that we as patients were paying large copays and out of pocket costs and treated us as such! This was the worst experience I’ve had trying to just get scheduled for an appointment."
"Called in to schedule an appointment as directed by my primary physician. The woman who answered the phone was not polite and told me the only appointment available was the very next day at a time when I had another appointment. I asked her when the one after that was and she didn’t even hesitate before she said January 26 which is over three months away. She then said that she could make an appointment for me with someone at another clinic but she wants sure if that person could perform the procedure I need. When I indicated that I didn’t want to make an appointment unless I was sure the doctor could perform the procedure I needed, she sounded irritated with me. She responded that without a referral from my doctor I would be treated as a new patient. If this is how you treat new patients, I hope you lose a lot of business! I’ve been suggested I should call my primary physician and get a referral and she probably said that would be fine and hung up. Horrible manners!"
"I am frustrated and disappointed in the guidelines at obgyn MMC. I called to make an appointment and wanted to see a obgyn doctor not a nurse practitioner. They told me the office manager has to call me to switch from the nurse practitioner that they originally assigned me to. I have a PPO I don’t need referrals so that is not the issue. It’s their policy that the office manager has to release me from the care of a nurse practitioner. From what I understand nurse practitioners need to work for a doctor but apparently not here. I waited all day for the office manager to call and at 4 pm I decided to call back. This time they tell me that the office manager was out do the office until Monday."
