Reviews of Locals Barbershop
"I usually trim my own hair and beard at home because 1. I am a simpleton and 2. Because salon prices have gone stupidly high in the recent times. I decided to walk into Locals for a beard trim because we had a party to attend to the next day. So I wanted to look my best. I was greeted properly. Trim started on time. Had a great chat with my stylist. Price was $30 for a beard trim which was ridiculous based on my past experiences in Tracy (recently moved to Pleasanton), but I accepted it since I am in a new place. I decided to go through with it hoping it would be some sort of magical trim. However, when we were done, I hate to say it looked the same way when I trim my own beard. I asked my stylist to improve the situation once, but it was not much improvement at all. I decided not to bother with any more instructions because I always hesitate to make the other person feel frustrated or annoyed. I tipped her about 20% even though I was not satisfied because we have created a forceful tipping culture in this country. I mean I'm sure all of the stylists are great, but I feel like they are great for people who are in the US. Whenever I visit India and go to a barbershop, you wouldn't believe how good they make me look when the trim is done. Many times, I just give them some basic instructions as to what I want and they know exactly what I want. They take an hour if not longer on the cut. They pick out your grey with scissors. It's VIP treatment for about a dollar or two (in rupees of course). On top of that, there is no expectation of a tip "ever." However, I do tip them which only adds up to another dollar or two and they value that like you wouldn't believe because they are not expecting any free money. Some might say my expectations are not reasonable and that is why I am only leaving a positive review for the shop and the stylists. However, unfortunately, the experience was not economical nor beneficial enough for me to do this repeatedly."
"Went in for a bit of a hair reset and was my first time at Locals. Booked an appointment with Jae and I could not be happier. I gave Jae some discretion and freedom on what he thought could work for me. And man was I extremely happy with the final result. The experience was fantastic and the cut has set my standard to a level where I have no choice but to come back every time now."
"Ivan is your man! Walked in on a Friday afternoon and got the best hair cut in a long time by Ivan. He’s extremely skilled and knows his craft very well. I’m going to be returning here every month."
"Locals Barbershop in Pleasonton is everything one needs when looking for more than a great haircut and barber location. I had the honor to first meet Gabe five years ago. Now whilst shortly visiting the region I again had the great honor! Couldn’t be happier for the appointment, the experience and the ongoing effort is being put into this business. Highly recommend, thank you so much and definitely see you next time. The best, Alex"
"So excited Gabe opened up Locals Barbershop in Pleasanton! I've been getting cut by Gabe at his original shop in SF for about 4 years and I was really bummed thinking I'd have to find a new barber after relocating to the East Bay. Thankfully, I won't have to now that he's in the East Bay too! I'm very picky when it comes to selecting a barber and a shop. I usually break down the decision making process into a few key categories: 1) Quality - If I'm not satisfied with the quality I see from barber's pics, I won't even bother setting up an appointment. I have hella cowlicks and my hair is thick, so it takes a while for barbers to get my cut right. Gabe posted a lot of his cuts online, so I could tell he was skilled and dedicated to his craft. I set up an appointment and was really happy with the quality of the cut, and he just keeps getting better! Not only does Gabe hold himself to high standards, he's also very selective of the barbers at his shop so I know they're all legit too. 2) People - It's really important to me that my barber, and the other barbers in the shop are down to earth and chill people. I already know 3 of the barbers at the new shop (Gabe, Grant, and Drew) and all of them are super cool and fun to talk to. This is such a bonus for a shop, because I feel like I'm going to hang out with homies and not going to run an errand. This is definitely intentional. Their brand is all about community and family, and you can actually feel it through their barbers and shop. 3) Environment/Vibe - To me, a barbershop should feel like an extension of you. It should be a place you go to relax, are comfortable being yourself, and can enjoy the experience all while getting a clean cut. Like I mentioned earlier, I think Gabe and his crew absolutely nail this on the people aspect. The shop's physical vibe is still being developed, but it already has a clean/cool feel to it. I know Gabe is carefully considering how he wants to mold the environment for the new shop, and I respect that he's not just tossing up random stuff to be done with it. He's deliberate about the space he wants to create, so I know it's going to be dope. Bottom line - Locals Barbershop in Pleasanton is definitely worth a visit. It has everything I want from a shop, and I'm confident others will love it too."
