Reviews of Copita Tequileria y Comida
"Great food for friends, a date night, or family. The chef is an artist who pays close attention to all details and the mixologist creatively infuses creations as well. The staff take good care of the guests. Whether seated downstairs or catching a view from upstairs, a positive experience, all around! We had the Blood Orange Margarita, Mangonada, Wine, Chicken Tortilla Soup, Brussels, 24/7 Carnitas, Guacamole, Crudo, Churro with Cinnamon and Chocolate. Next time…we will do the flights!"
"We had dinner here after driving several hours back from Yosemite. We were very hungry, and our dinner and drinks were fantastic! It was also quite pretty inside. We would absolutely go back if we lived closer!"
"Went for a friend's birthday. Had great service - especially for such a large group. We sat outside upstairs with the heaters and stayed warm enough. The tacos were yummy, if not small. However paired with a beer or cocktail and the plate size was large enough. Chips and salsa were also served complimentary. As a heads up, the Mexican doughnuts (on the dessert menu) tasted like the churros, just repurposed - do not really authentic bunuelos. The cocktails were pretty. I thought $8 for the draft beer was a bit overpriced. However all in all, a good experience. The parking entrance is off of Willow Street. After 5pm, more parking opens up (reserved for another business until 5). We went on a Thursday at 6pm. Not sure how tight parking is when it's busier."
"A very new and very nice restaurant by Bay Area celebrity chef Joanne Weir, in the heart of downtown Willow Glen. The food is very good. On my first visit I had the carnitas, which was incredibly moist and unctuous. It came with this wonderful crema that had just the right amount of heat to cut through the richness of the carnitas. The pickled vegetables on the side were also wonderful. The staff is friendly and quick, and the place itself looks great. When we got there for lunch they had great 80s music playing on the speakers, but some annoying Karen demanded that they turn the music down. Lol. Will definitely go back."
"Ambience - sat in the main hall. It was cavernous with a big TV at one end, and a bar on the side. Felt a bit sparse and airy, not in a good way - more like a warehouse, not very intimate. Booth felt very diner quality. There is also a small patio, but it is exposed to traffic noise. Rooftop looked nice, but only opens for dinner, no reservations. Service - nice, friendly server. Refilled water promptly. Food and drink orders came reasonably quickly. They comped us a dessert because they ran out of the one we ordered. Drinks - Ordered Copita Margarita (came with branded ice!), Mayahuel Jalapeno Margarita (lacked kick - chili salt on the rim would've been nice), Mangonada (nice looking and decent taste), Guava Paloma. All drinks felt a bit on the light & sweeter side. Food - they brought out chips & salsa that we did not order, and then charged $5.50 for that (unnecessary). Truffle Empanadas tasted good, but felt heavy (a recurring theme). Brussel Sprouts one-upped them, with even better taste but even heavier feel! Our server recommended the Coconut Ceviche, but it was not that great - felt quite bland. Tacos (Trompo, Cod) tasted good, but disappointed that cod was fried and even the pork felt too crunchy. Would've liked them to be more juicy & delicate. The tortilla felt fresh but too thick & doughy, which again makes every dish feel heavy. Shrimp enchiladas had an awesome sauce, but the filling was otherwise uninspired. Quesabirria was a letdown - the lamb lacked flavor and the bread was way too thick. Desserts - Churros and Creme Brulee were both a bit meh, not worth the calories! All in all, the experience felt sub-par given the hype around this new place. It has potential, but the interiors have to be spruced up and made more intimate, the drinks a bit less sweet, the tortillas a bit thinner, the food a bit lighter and the desserts a lot better."
