"We used to go here then they closed down. They are back. If you like to take your time while dining and have conversations, this is the place. No rush. Great tasring food."
"I was lured by the high star ratings. I'm always up for trying someplace new to me but are 'neighborhood classics' especially if escargot is on the menu. The place is vintage and seems to have been there for a very long time and I'm genuinely glad they survived the pandemic. Many of my food adventures end up at these pandemic survivors. I order everything I want and tip well as a sort of silent nod of victory to the places. Service was very good, 5 stars. Our waiter was friendly and attentive but not intrusive. In my experience, only higher end places ($$$$) will pack food for you when you want to take it home. Our server graciously did the honors. For anyone reading this that manges or works in food service and you want to level up on customer service, do this. Another plus to my experience was the crayons at the table. I know they're meant for kids but come on. Who doesn't enjoy drawing while waiting? My (19 y/o) kid and I enjoyed a few rounds of the doodle game while we waited for our food to arrive. The vibe was definitely older adults/seniors at least in their 60s. I could see how this place may have been a dining staple for long-time residents for the past 40 years. They all seemed to be drinking and knew what they wanted. I don't drink so I can't say anything about the wine selection. This is the dreaded part of my review because I like to open with celebrating the wins. I came especially because I had a craving for escargot. It was my birthday and I'm worth it. ( ◜‿◝ )♡ I know there are supply and quality issues globally and that they have affected all restaurants so I offer this review with the utmost understanding that some things are out of business' control. The escargot were not quite as robust in size or flavor than I'm used to. You bet I gobbled them up and sopped up every drop of garlic butter with the bread which honestly was just like a baguette I could've gotten from a wicker basket at a Ralphs deli section. Nonetheless the bread was a vehicle for the garlic butter. For dinner I ordered the lamb cooked medium. It came to me medium well but I didn't complain because I was so hungry and the texture was totally fine. The au gratin potatoes were very good. Four thick slices of zucchini and another 4 slicces of carrots gave the plate some color. They were cooked to the appropriate tenderness. They carried their own natural flavor but nothing else. The lamb, although a tad over cooked, was nice and tender. The sauce was wonderfully creamy but like the lamb it lacked a distinctive flavor. An herb, any herb, would have given it some interest. My kid had the special pork filet with mustard sauce. They liked it very much and offered me a taste. Potatoes and veggies were exactly the same as mine so win on the au gratin again. My kid hates zucchini but I can't help that. The pork was much firmer in comparison with the lamb which was a little surprising. I'm guessing it was cooked faster to get it in front of us sooner. The mustard sauce was nice but not as robust in flavor as it appeared. Of course we had dessert. My kid ordered the bread pudding which looked delicious but tasted as if the bread was the exact same Ralphs baguette in the bread basket. I wouldn't say it was bad, it was just ok. I ordered the apple crumble. The cobbler topping was perfect. Unfortunately it was baked atop what tasted like run-of-the-mill applesauce. Lastly I ordered a double espresso. It should have been at least 2-2.5 oz. What I got was a single espresso with the price of a double. Yeah I let it slide and I shouldn't have. It was my birthday and I didn't want to get confrontational and taint the joy I was feeling for just being alive. It was an overall pleasant first time experience but I won't be going out of my way to revisit. I do hope the regulars keep coming enough to keep the place afloat."
"I am a huge fan of French Bistros in general so was happy to find this one in Eagle Rock. A casual bistro with great service and food honestly always sounds good to me. Parking is easy as there is tons of neighborhood and street parking available, the menu has a good selection of items and our server was very polite. I started off the meal with a personal favorite of mine, French Onion soup, and it really hit the spot on a cold December night. I usually like a darker roux, almost brown, whereas this is a lighter broth but still a very nice taste to it. Followed up with the flamed filet mignon with Roquefort and it was delicious. It was cooked very well and the cheese was a new change for me with steak, but was an easy sell to me since I love cheese. A really all around delightful meal. I would recommend to anyone especially if you're a fan of bistros. That being said I would not suggest for a birthday or anniversary meal just because of the more casual nature of the place. I will be back again in the future it was a very nice experience."
"Very good food in an unsuspecting area. The general atmosphere is fair and detracts from the overall experience this 4 stars. Enjoyed the strip steak with peppercorn sauce. Was cooked as ordered and served hot. Would eat here again."
"Intimate and cozy experience. My husband and I came here to celebrate. 2 of us had a wonderful experience for $70 including tip. The ambiance is low lighting with a cool french vibe. The fish was semi-fresh, but not the freshest. The vegetables were well seasoned and cooked. All in all, we had a lovely experience."
