"I’ve been seeing Megan here for a few months now and she is the best! My hair was pretty short when I first saw her and she added some style to it at that length. Since then we’ve worked on growing it out a little and she’s been really helpful at keeping it looking good and stylish through it all. Megan has also suggested some better products for shampoo, conditioner and pomade and now my hair looks and feels so much better and healthier than before. Thanks so much Megan!"
"I relocated to the Midwest several years ago. I visit Northern California a couple of times a year and always make it a point to stop at Michelle Scott Salon. I absolutely love St. Helena, and the salon has such a warm and inviting vibe that I make sure to have my highlights touched up and a haircut each time."
"WARNING!!!! If you are considering going to this salon or seeing Megan Hilsop, please read this review and do not go!! It will ruin your life! I have spent the past 7 months in a state of complete physical and mental devastation because of the gross incompetence at this salon that caused me to lose all my hair. I am finally beginning to recover and feel it’s necessary to warn others. Here’s the story: I live in Calistoga during the summers and needed some help with my hair. I googled hair salons and saw Michele Scott so decided to give it a try. My hair had been dyed too dark and I wanted to lighten it slightly. The first time I walked into the salon to meet with Megan Hilsop I was a little late and she told me she didn’t have time to work on my hair and that bleaching it would never be a solution because it was already somewhat damaged. She sent me home and told me to wash my hair with laundry detergent and come back the following week. This caused a lot of hair loss in the shower and left my hair disgusting. I should have known then not to return. Sadly I did. When I came back, I found Megan outside smoking a cigarette (which she reeked of). We went inside and she told me she was going to bleach my hair completely (the exact thing she said not to do initially). When I expressed concern, she told me that I should trust her and that this was going to take a very long time and she charged hourly. I was new to dying my hair and she guaranteed me she was the best in the business so I took a leap of faith (not realizing then that she simply chose the treatment she knew would take the longest so she could collect more money). During my visit she even told me that she inflates prices for “rich tourist women” she doesn’t like. She began working on my hair and I knew something must be wrong because my scalp burned. She kept telling me it was fine and left me in the chair for hours. When she took the foil off my hair was orange and she proceeded to dye it brown. It was still orange after but she insisted I didn’t need a toner. I left the salon with bright orange hair that she refused to fix because she was “out of town.” Things just got worse from there. My hair began breaking off in piles and falling out of my scalp in clumps. My entire head of LONG hair broke off an inch or less from my scalp or fell out completely. I was and am in a complete state of devastation. Megan took absolutely no responsibility for what she did to me, even though two dermatologists told me my scalp was burned from bleach and almost a dozen hairdressers were abhorred at how Megan approached my hair. She should have highlighted it. Bleach the way she applied it is almost never used professionally. Megan is incompetent and should have her license revoked, which is something I am pursuing. Moreover, the owner of the salon, Michele Scott, also took no responsibility. Stepping foot in the doors of this salon was one of the worst things that has ever happened to me, so please do not make the same mistake. They actively try to harm tourists, so if you are one, run away!!! Megan took years of self-confidence away from me and made me bald. I survived breast cancer with minimal hair loss and she took it all away. It will take 5 years for me to get back what I lost. I wish hair stylists could be sued for gross negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress. I would file charges in a heartbeat. So, if you are even considering this salon, RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN BEFORE THEY RUIN YOUR LIFE TOO!!!!!"
"I just walked out of the salon, again, with a giant smile on my face. I have been going to Megan Hislop for 3 years. My hair has changed over the years as I’ve trusted it in her hands. She has helped me find the right products, the right styling tools, we’ve even talked about nutrition. Let’s be honest a salon can be like therapy, and I’m thankful to the moon and back that I have Megan. She always schedules me for another visit before I leave. She has work with me when I explained I couldn’t get in to her as often as needed. That means she knew the right way to color my hair so that it would grow out in a way that wasn’t awful and looking as if it needed to be colored. No harsh lines. She is open and honest when it comes to hair style and color. I’ve walked in several times to an appointment and said “I don’t know what to do, what do you think?” And again I walk out smiling. She has always taken my hair health. She advised me against drastic change that might damage my hair and instead suggested steps for the next few visits to achieve what I wanted. I discovered my hair color was changing, it wasn’t the red that I wanted. We talked about sun exposure, red dye itself and hair follicles, even my well water at home. She suggested a filter on my shower head, I got one and in time we saw the change in my hair. Also products that help against sun damage, wearing a hat. I damage my hair daily by pulling it back to workout. Megan and I talked about different ways to get it out of my face, cloth headbands, clips, different fabric hair bands. My working out and intense sweating leads to drying out my hair. So months ago she suggested I leave conditioner in my hair so it protects my hair. My point is she digs deeper and truly is there for you for your hair health. Not just to instantly make you look amazing. Many people want instant change with hair and they don’t take in consideration the entire picture. Megan considers the entire picture. She will be realistic and honest with you about style, color, texture, products…all of it. You can walk in with a picture wanting hair like Jennifer Aniston, but if you don’t have the type of hair, or facial structure or willingness to spend money on products -you aren’t going to look like her when you walk out. As for price, it is what it is. I wish everything was less expensive (from workout leggings to fuel to facials to medicine to groceries to housing). But one thing I know is that for quality there is a price. Megan uses quality products, and is an amazing talented artist."
"I’ve recently transitioned from dying my hair dark to my natural grey. This was a quite a process and massive leap of faith after coloring my hair regularly for over 20 years. Megan was professional and carefully walked me through the steps we needed to go through. it took 2 long appointments that included fortifying treatments to insure the health of my hair, then bleaching, then temporarily glazes to balance out the new growth with the older hair. The process went exactly how she explained and my end results have been amazing. With so many women my age transitioning to their natural color these days, I’ve recommended Megan Hilsop numerous times and will gladly sing her praises about this process and her overall talent as a stylist. Additionally, She has given a my Son a great haircut, when he was it town, my older daughter, a banner blowout, my younger daughter, gorgeous blond balayage(highlights) and most recently, my husband who enjoys her demeanor and is always satisfied with his haircuts. Clearly, I will give her as many stars as possible and highly recommend her services as she is pleasant, professional and very talented."
