""I'm going to use the ultrasonic scaler," she says. "It's a vibrating water thing. Some people like it and some people don't." "Does it feel better than a metal hook scraping against your teeth?" As she laughs I say, "I'll try it." It's my bi-annual torture session and as she begins I start to think I got the torturer that's going soft. This isn't bad except for the occasional sharp poke right in the gumline of what I imagine as a needle made from water. The light spray of mouth mist wafts across my face when she hits my teeth just right. "Is it ok?" she asks and for a moment I'm not sure how I should respond. 'Yes' seems like what she is looking for but I'm afraid if I admit it she'll switch to something worse. I'm still waiting for the nipple twisting or bamboo shoots under the fingernails. "Sure," I respond and go back to my meditative practice. I have my hands folded on my lap and am forcing them not to cinch closed in an effort to hold my own hand in comfort. I'm thinking about the vacation I'm going on with the family. I've got to make it back to my family alive. Stay strong Wayne. Think about the beach… The daydream goes wrong as the water washes over me. I leave the beach to find there really is too much water and she's fidgeting with the ultrasonic scaler. She finally stops it. "Sorry, it wouldn't turn off," she says. "It's not bad," I say through the shock of not having my toes put through a mandolin. "Uh-oh," she says. "It won't turn on now." A cacophony of emotions erupts in my mind starting with Blame, who immediately stands up and starts yelling that it's my fault for getting to comfortable. Blame doesn't get two words out before Anger starts throwing my emotional baggage, that I keep stored in my head for exactly this reason, at Shock in an effort to get him to unfreeze. Panic, who is standing right next to Shock, starts gibbering when Hysteria screams over the top of everybody, "SHE"S GOT THE HOOK!" and sends all of them scattering for hiding places like deer from the crack of a gunshot. The only one still there is Shock and he opens up. It is everything I remembered it to be. The scraping sounds feel like they're deep in my ear as if the sound from scraping a chalkboard has finally reached adulthood and is making love to my jawbone. The scraping only varies when its caress catches an edge where the pressure builds until something breaks, feeling like it took a piece of my tooth and soul with it. Punctuated by sharp pains when my gums are occasionally punctured, I curse this lady in my head like Charlie Brown must curse Lucy when he's flying through the air to land on his back after she pulls the football away. Then it's over far too soon and I realize the beauty of the ultrasonic scaler she used. She had cleaned almost all of my teeth with it before it stopped. In a fuzzy cloud of candy coated ecstasy I walk with her to the front counter where I make my next appointment. Her reverse psychology with the reintroduction of the hook has me feeling euphoric like somebody, having been stretched on the rack and stabbed with barbed hooks six months ago, finds himself being flogged with scented bootlaces and decides it's not that bad. Needless to say, I have made my next appointment and am looking forward to the scented bootlaces."
"If you want dental abscesses and debilitating tooth pain after having a basic procedure done, this is the place for you! With a doctor unable to determine the appropriate treatment for your teeth, you will definitely have to pay for antibiotics for their mistake. And that quote they gave you originally, throw it out the window! You get to pay for additional work that you were told you wouldn’t need before the procedure started. Your healthy teeth that only need a filling or crown will need a root canal or extraction by the time they are done with you. Head on down to Quality Dentistry, where the dental chairs and parking lot are empty."
"High-quality treatment from Quality Dentistry! Appointments are easy to make with the friendly front desk staff. They are always on time for me and my family. The hygienists do a great job and skillfully keep up a conversation while cleaning my teeth. Dr. Wong has been my dentist for the past 15 years and has take excellent care of my teeth and smile. I have healthy gums, no cavities and Invisaligned teeth. He is great with kids--especially with my toddler's first dental visit. He is professional, courteous and explains everything so I understand what's going on with my teeth."
"With early morning and after 5pm hours this office is perfect for the average person who can't walk away from work. Office staff is welcoming, professional and has great service. This place is also managed like a well oiled machine. I did have a filling two years ago done here that broke off. They caught it 2 visits later and fixed it free of charge. Just also know that if you're used to the traditional one person dentist, this is not your place. Been going here for 4 years and never had the same dentist because there's so many. Regardless of this, they're all great."
"I've been to a ton of Dentists throughout my life because apparently I have teeth of a 9yr old with a wicked sugar habit who lives in a trailer park. Alas, I work hard to keep what I have. This dental experience is second to none. Everyone from the front desk to the hygienists and various support staff is professional, friendly, and most importantly, genuinely happy to be there. The morale in this office is good and it shows. The Doctors? Well, the Dentists are the best I've ever seen, hands down. From Dr Rickey to Dr Wong to the very caring and patient Dentist who saw me as a walk-in on 5-22 to re-cement a crown that had fallen out, I can honestly say I'd be hard-pressed to find more caring and competent Doctors. And I've been an RN for 20+ years. I know Doctors. If you are on the fence about a Dentist office, do not wait. You found it. I'm very grateful I did."
