Reviews of Vanderbilt Children's Allergy and Immunology Clinic
"Vaccines are a touchy subject and I understand. As a parent I always do what I feel best for my child. We’ve always followed the vaccine schedule and have not had a problem that we know of until recently. My son got three vaccines at our pediatrician on June 6. He received HPV, tetanus, and meningitis. He was nervous before the shots, as most kids are, but not severely anxious or out of the norm. Shortly after he tells me he feels like his throat is closing up. they lay him down his blood pressure was 100/51 HR was 54, and had absolutely no color. He was like gasping for air and couldn’t even cry. It was terrible, for me And him. All the while I’m telling him not to be scared, that everything is gonna be okay, but The doctor comes in with an Epipen, a vile of something and a syringe. All of the nurses are in a panic and rushing around frantically. She ended up giving him Benadryl, and water. He slept off and on all day. The next day he told me to look at his arm it was red, with swelling, and major heat coming off of it. We were going into the weekend so I called his pediatrician back they told me if the redness went down his arm to get him into a clinic but to just give him Benadryl. So I did…. But even so It continued to get so swollen it hurt for him to move his arm, we put ice on it, and gave Benadryl, Throughout the weekend. When Monday came I got him an appointment to his pediatrician. The swelling was still there, but not the heat. She said he had vasovagal response to vaccine. She recommended we go get seen at Vanderbilt Allergy where he has been seen before for his very bad seasonal allergies. So I felt better, because we would get some answers for what happened that day. After driving two hours to get there, we left with nothing. I liked the nurse practitioner she was nice but I walked away feeling like nothing was accomplished at all, no test were performed, everything was just dismissed, Basically was told that they believed it was vasovagal response as well….. My child could not breathe. The dr and nurses were panicking around the room. At the very least an allergy test could be performed before telling me to do that to my child again. I showed the pictures of the swelling, and redness and the comment was made that it looked like his shirt was too tight, and I had to say it’s where he lifted his sleeve to show his arm… it makes no sense that a tight shirt would cause a baseball size not with redness and fever under my child’s skin. Overall this was a complete waste, not only was my child’s concerns and well-being completely dismissed… not one test was done. The trip 2 hours there and 2 hours back and gas, time off work etc. I was hoping to get answers so I knew what happened to my son, and to know if it was safe to continue to give the recommended vaccinations. Instead I left with more questions and doubt with the medical field than I started."
"Dr Kahn is phenomenal. She provides intelligent and compassionate care and my daughter just loves her. We appreciate her so much and the time she takes with us when we have to come in."
"I never had the joy of being her patient, but I did work for her for 3 years. If I could give her 100 stars I would. She is so patient and so kind to anyone she speaks with. She leads with an example and never turns away someone in need. She is the nicest, most softest person in the world for her patients. She knows how to get things done, and even though there is a little bit of a wait due to it being a specialty clinic, she is worth the wait."
"Doctors complex. You can find any kind of speciality doctor in here. All are from Vanderbilt."
